Pucapo
Our toy female has come on heat like clockwork every 6 months. On her 3rd and 4th heat we mated her and had successful pregnancies and puppies. We then did not mate her on her 5th heat, then following that she came into season three months later. Is this what is called a silent heat or has she just come into season at a different time because she was not mated?

JRG
Many bitches do not come into season at regular intervals. Just record the date of seasons and see what her pattern (if any) is. Note that in some States, bitches can’t (legally) have more than two litters in 18 months. 1
asal
"Whelping Frequency 4A. A Member shall not breed a bitch causing it to whelp more than twice in eighteen months without the prior approval of the Board of Directors except under extenuating circumstances where application for registration of the litter may be considered by the Board of Directors. (11/08) 4B. A Member shall not breed a bitch causing it to whelp more than twice in two years without the prior written approval of a Veterinary Surgeon certifying her fitness to carry and whelp the third litter. (11/11) 4C. A Member shall not breed a bitch causing it to whelp more than six times without prior veterinary certification of fitness for further breeding and without prior approval of the Board of Directors except under extenuating circumstances where application for registration of the litter may be considered by the Board of Directors. (11/08), (11/11)" So, as actually as she has already bred two litters. The third litter cannot be registered if she whelps them even a day less than two years from the birth date of the first litter. As noted not all bitches cycle six monthly. so can get caught out. Would have to go to the board to decide in that instance. Along with a veterinarian certificate issued before she was mated. Pucapo
I wasn't intending to mate her again, and did not. I was simply asking about the frequency of her heats. I thought the timeframe between heats may differ depending on whether or not they were mated. Edited November 9, 2020 by Pucapo Spelling

With Dogs Qld: Dogs Qld Rules and code of practice G24. A person shall not breed a bitch causing it to whelp more than twice in 18 months. The age for the first breeding of bitches may be breed-specific based on maturation after the second heat but is preferably 22 months of age. This regulation is not intended to reduce minimum requirements for breeding set out in the code of ethics of Dogs Queensland and the rules of the ankc, national breed councils, and/ or breed clubs. G25. ( discusses the age for the first breeding of a male dog) So clause 4B (Dogs NSW) restricting to 2 litters in 2 years without a veterinary certificate is not applicable in Qld. (Dogs Qld Rules & Code of Practice) I would have thought that the rules were the same in all states under ANKC code of ethics. However on the ANKC website " National code of practice of responsible dog ownership" clause 13 also only restrict breeding to whelping twice in 18 months. Is it just Dogs New South Wales that have come up with a different rule? Thank you @asalasal for your references.
Diva
Sometimes those extra restrictions are to make codes of practice consistent with state law when state law imposes extra requirements. So you’ll get the ANKC rule plus what ever the state government has legislated. From memory this is the case for the 2 litters in 2 years rule in NSW, it is a state government rule that Dogs NSW adopted for consistency.
