Looking for an experienced dog behaviour specialising in large breed dogs to treat dog aggression

Hi I have an Irish Wolfhound x Bull Mastiff who is aggressive towards other dogs. She loves people and is very calm around them. 
 

I need to find someone who can help me rehabilitate her. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone in the ACT region. I don’t want to re home her unless I absolutely can’t avoid it.

You might also need a behaviour vet in which case there are two local options, Dr Isabelle Resch at Inner South Vets and Dr Helen Purdam at Hall Veterinary Surgery.

Also keep in mind you may not be able to rehabilitate & be wary of any trainer that suggests so .
What you may be more trying to achieve is more self control when dogs are in the space & the ability to control .

Hopefully you can find a good honest trainer to give you sound advice whether you plan to keep the dog or if rehoming doing so with full report history

Domestic Animal Services visited today and did a temperament test on her and feel that she is able to be trained and that she is showing as still having an over excited puppy brain that needs some solid training. 
 

also I have to get approval to re home her. And the vet suggested putting her with a pig hunting family but I’m not keen on that idea. I also found out today that is illegal in ACT.

 

they said they would recommend some good trainers. I’m just a bit nervous about it tbh.

Just because she's large and  DOG aggressive does not mean she would even HUNT ..even if you wanted to do this to her . Dogs for pig hunting are usually bred for their hunting abilities..not just random large dogs they really have to have skills and be , ermm, good at working with other dogs , usually. (yes, I do know something of pig dogs) Folks I know work dogs in pairs, mostly ....

I second ringing steve, dog aggression is his thing.

And your vet clearly has no idea about hunting dogs, they need not to be dog aggressive or how do they work ! idiot.

Why would you cross a wolfhound with a bull mastiff if it wasn't for the purpose of breeding a hunting dog? Also if the DAS rangers are involved I suspect the issue is not merely agressive display but there has actually been a reported attack.

Just because it has size, doesn't mean it has the temperament . Remember my Kieran? He was a staghound X  bred for pigging ..dumped to die in the bush  at around 9 weeks because he was a sook..and remained so his entire life .A rabbit could set him shivering ! He was a watchdog , and could , on rare occasions be aggressive toward certain types of humans  however.
