charli73
We’ve taken a foster German Shepherd 2yo and she seems afraid of people. She was very timid when first meeting us but we’ve gained her love and trust and she is a very gentle and beautifully girl. she is very gentle with our children 8/9 yo, playful with them without getting too excited and is a delight. When we walk she seems unsettled and when we pass an unknown male she goes wide, hackles are up and growls. She does the same thing with dogs bigger than her but is not reactive to smaller dogs. She was matched to us as she’s good with kids and had a male handler, was never allowed inside so wondering if she had minimal socialisation any tips? juice
If she is a foster have the rescue not offered behavioural help with a trainer ? She is going to be a liability if you don’t get help .
charli73
I messaged them a few days ago and heard nothing, I might ask them for guidance.
juice
Keep at them! right now she is a liability and she isn't going to get better without help, she will escalate. I'm surprised they even fostered her out without backup, poor form. Tell them you will return her unless they sort out professional help. Quite common for rescues these days & they all "offer help" but that doesn't seem to happen just the catch cry line to help them walk out the door. We see far too many dogs where this has happened & no assistance & often told it didn't display anything like that whilst in care . Its scary how many rescues send dogs out without doing a full temp assessment . I know of an assessor who walked away as they would rehome dogs to unsuitable homes & she didn't want her name attached to any issues for liability . We board & groom many amazing rescues but there are a few that also come in that are scary ,wrong home & hands wiped off
