tashah
Hi, I purchased a beautiful Golden Retriever puppy from a breeder in Denison. Since then our gorgeous puppy has been diagnosed with a heart murmur and has a life span of 3-4 years. As you could imagine we are all devastated. I have been trying to contact the breeder but she is ignoring all my calls and texts. I was just wondering if anyone else has bought a Golden Retriever puppy from Denison and had the same issue? Shelza
How old is the puppy? Is the breeder registered with dogs Victoria?
Dogsfevr
Agree how old is this dog . Have you seen a specialist vet for diagnosis.
Tassie
That is very upsetting. A couple of thoughts about trying to contact the breeder . - I'd keep a dated, timed and written record of all your attempts; If you're really getting nowhere, then you could try seeing if you can get help with the contacting theough Dogs Victoria - assuming the breeder is a Dogs Victoria registered breeder; you could try contacting the Golden Retriever Club of Victoria to see if they are able to offer any advice; it might be possible for your vet to contact the vet who did the pup's fist vaccination and microchipping - it wouldn't be unreasonable for your vet to ask the initaial vet if there had been any signs of problems apparent at that time; and there's always snail mail … if Australia Post still have the registered/certified mail option where you get proof of delivery/receipt. Did you get any information about the eye and heart health certificates of the parents? I do hope you can get some information which may help your puppy. It might be worth asking for a referral to a veterinary cardiologist for a specialist opinion too.

Get a second opinion from a specialist before getting serious. Sometimes vets make mistakes, especially in matters where they aren't experts.
tashah
My beautiful puppy is 2 years old now. I am not sure if she is registered, she lived on a farm and had dogs and puppies every where, mainly Golden Retrievers. I picked him up in Denison I have seen two specialist with the same diagnosis. Cost me $550 first time for an ultrasound and then $880 for the second from a different specialist who performed an echocardiograph. The specialist doctor has put in writing that this sub-aortic stenosis is very likely to be a hereditary genetic condition. I have emailed her all the receipts and informative reports but she doesn't want to know about it I never did get any formal information about the parents. I met them both gave them a pat they had such a beautiful nature so we bought our puppy for $2400 assuming he was fine. He came with a vet check, microchip, flea and worming and first vaccination. It seemed all legitimate. I'm afraid she is still selling these puppies and many other people may be in this same situation. Just don't know what to do now??? juice
When you buy a dog it’s upto you to check the breeder does the right health checks for that breed , if you don’t that’s the risk you take . Your wasting your time with the breeder she doesn’t have to do anything the pup wasn’t sold with any health guarantee.

No, nothing you can do now re the breeder...yes, they will be probably still selling cute puppies to unwise buyers Enjoy the years you have with your beautiful Golden. Doesn't law concerning defective merchandise apply? If she can show that the breeder is knowing selling puppies with a high risk of ill health, I'd think that Small Claims Tribunal would be a way to send a message.

Dogsfevr
You could most likely pursue it but like anything it comes down to how much you want to spend to pursue it . Just curious what age was it actually picked up .

The fear of having to go to court again may be enough to stop a mildly shady breeder, even if they win the case.
tashah
His heart murmur was picked up on his first vaccination with my vet. I contacted the breeder at that time she said "Bring the dog back, I will give you a new one" This what not an option after spending 4 weeks with him. My son bonded with his new best friend. It was impossible to return him!!! I asked her if she could help with the cost of all the subsequent tests and she said 'if we sign a waiver so she is not responsible she would give us $700." We paid $2400 for our gorgeous puppy and knew we were up for a whole lot more, We though at least she could do is just refund our money?? Since then she will not answer any calls or texts or emails.. Now I just feel for all the other people, buying her pups that are probably going to loose them from sub-aortic stenosis (Heart murmur)
persephone
Ah, so the breeder has offered to take pup back. She has offered something. No way will you ever get a refund AND get to keep a pup. She did the right thing, offering that, at least, whatever else is amiss. Edited July 1, 2020 by persephone
juice
You can’t get a refund and keep the goods . You knew years back then what the deal was and you went with it , your decision.

I gather your vet informed of the severity then and the breeder did offer you something But you opted out . There is nothing to say the breeder breed any more with issues ,yours may have drew the unlucky combo to have this issue and the vet has said likely but not guaranteed hereditary. Just like humans who give there kids issues even the best of breeders can have it happen . That crystal ball could be more helpful at times . We would have refunded your money because off the issue Edited July 2, 2020 by Dogsfevr
_PL_
As above, the breeder offered you a return. She's under no obligation to pay your bills or refund you your purchase price. Sorry. I just lost my dear little rescue dog to a similar thing at nearly 4yrs. You just have to be at peace with nature. Give her the best life possible. And next time, research your breeder.
cptC
Hi Tash, I also bought a golden retriever puppy from a breeder in Denison (via the trading post) 2 years ago. They also trained horses. I'm not sure if it's the same breeder or not but my puppy has also been diagnosed with a small heart murmur. The vet has said that it isn't anything to worry about atm and it's quite common. I'm very concerned reading this. Did the problem gradually get worse over time?

Because Golden's have been shown to have a problem with some ingredients put in dry food to replace the grains. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=golden+retriever+grain+free+heart+disease
