Maddie Smith saw her cat, Ruby, behave strangely and assumed it was from the cold weather. After she returned from work that night, Ruby's condition had deteriorated to the point where she could no longer walk, eat or drink, and had trouble seeing and hearing. Mrs. Smith took her to a vet who said she was suffering from brain swelling due to sodium poisoning.
