Rose Hip Vital - Experiences Please Any Animal

 Share

Recommended Posts

I’ve seen  rave reviews about Rose Hip Vital over the years and watching my old dogs, particularly Mezza, struggle to their feet, I’ve decided to give it a try.  The order is on its way and I am hoping I will have the doggy  version of spring lambs cavorting in the back yard any day now.  :crossfingers:  :crossfingers:  :crossfingers:

Both Tamar and Mezza are on meds but poor little Mezza still limps badly.  Tamar has nerve damage and her back legs have episodes of going all over the place.  She doesn’t appear to be in any pain except for one spot that the vet can find, just that she is wobbly and sometimes if she turns around too quickly or gets to excited she can tumble over.  Doesn’t worry her though and she still flies down the back steps like a puppy.  Having had leg and back pain myself over the last few years, and having dreadful reaction to some meds (Tramal being oneI can sympathise more with their experience. :(  :(  :(

Who has tried Rose Hip (any animal) and what have been your experiences?  I follow a horse rescue group and I think it was on their FB page where I first saw it mentioned in glowing terms.

I've tried it with the greyhounds and in my experience.. palatability was dreadful. I mean, nightmare-inducing. I was tempted to buy some gel capsules to fill, to make it easier to get into them. What stopped me was the second issue: it did nothing at all for any of the dogs I've tried it on. Not a damn thing.

Obviously some people have great experiences with it (and I'm not saying that my experience invalidates their experience) but if I were you, I'd see if you can get a sample-sized amount to start with. Personally, I ended up with a very expensive jar of powder that went in the bin. Huge waste of money and effort.

It's always hard to say definitively what is having a particular effect, but my old BC girl was on it for several years from about age 11 or 12 until her death from lymphoma at 15.25, and I'm reasonably satisfied that it assisted her mobility and general wellbeing.  It was a real bon for me, because she had underlying kidney disease, so some of the normal anti inflams were ruled out, but the RHCV is kidney safe according to our holistic vet.   Thinking about it, she also had a herbal arthritis pain relief powder which he made up (and which one of his vet techs used for her rheumatoid arthritis pain.)

I've been using it with my 10 year old agility boy for the same length of time, along with glucosamine/chondroitin which he's had prophylactically since he was about 4.  Again, it's hard to tell which, if anything is keeping him (touch wood) fit and healthy and jumping well.

Another dog friend of mine uses RHCV routinely with her dogs - working Labradors, GWP, Jack Russell - and she takes it herself and swears by it.      And yet another friend with an ageing GSD with a number of problems has been using RHCV for several months now, along with the dog's other meds (not sure what they are) and he definitely looks a more comfortable and more sprightly dog than he was.   Again .. who knows what is actually doing the helping .. but since the RHCV is unlikely to be harmful (and has undergone testing for that), it's probably worth using.

Agree with Maddy about the unpalatability .. My guys have yoghurt with their meals, so I put the powder on that, and then sprinkle it with some sort of tasty topper .. that does the trick.

I'd be inclined to buy it direct from the company .. their service is good, and they often have specials .. and I would think they might refund at least part of the price if you were unsatisfied, and returned it, though I'm only guessing about that.

All my dogs (3, 8 and 12 year old) receive the following daily, based on discussions with a US sports vet:

Probiotics:

https://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/digesticare-60-multistrain-probiotic-for-companion-animals

Omega 3 (there’s a small breed version):

https://au.iherb.com/pr/Nordic-Naturals-Omega-3-Pet-8-fl-oz-237-ml/43656

4-Cyte for Joints:

https://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/4cyte-canine-joint-treatment

I haven’t been keen to put them on Rose Hip - I’m not quite convinced on the science.

My youngsters receive amazing chiro/massage from a human and canine qualified specialist every 4 weeks with Zig seeing him every 3 months. I do massage and light trigger point work on them several times a week. That’s made such a difference to how they ALL move.

It's not going to hurt to try it. I haven't used it because i doubt my dog would eat anything with that powder added, and I'm not sure how much a (expensive) bottle of vitamin C would help..

I've always used 4cyte with good results in the past, and I'm using it now as a preventative with my 1 year old Jack Russell.

Just unpacked a new container of RHCV today, and there was a tag on it saying they do offer complete refund if you're dissatisfied .. so worth checking that out with them.

And I forgot to add yesterday, to the OP …. our holistic vet has some hand held laser thingies which he hires out so people don't have to bring their dogs in all the time .. shows people how to use them first, of course, and only if they are suitable for particular issues.

Thanks for all the input.  I hope I am in the band of those it helped.

@Tassie, good to know abut the refund.  I ordered mine directly from RHCV and they have been offering 1/2 price.

When you say you have a friend who gives it to her dogs and takes it herself, do you mean the same product (teaspoon for Mezza, teaspoon for me  ).  I’m up for it as meds have stopped giving me relief from pain in my legs.

LOL .. yes same powder for horses, dogs and people.   Just adjust the dosage .. it's based on weight.     I haven't been game to try it on myself, but my friend swears by it, for herself as well as the dogs.

Good that you were able to get the half price offer.   They do regular offers like that .. the last one I got was the horse size ROFL

Well, it has arrived.  I tried a little bit with Mezza in bone broth.  He licked a bit but seeing his dose is two scoops a day, I would have to feed him about 1000 litres of bone broth to get enough down  .  Bunter lapped it all up though but he is the one without leg issues   .

Mezza and Tamar have been on RHV since 6 December - I haven’t noticed any changes at all.  However, we are all going to the vet this afternoon for check ups so will see what she thinks.

Mezza was shaved on Friday and has gone from full coat Pomeranian to a teacup Akita   .  He was very quiet for the first couple of days, but seemed to get back his mojo last night and this morning was playing solo soccer again, which made me happy.

I have given up on Rose Hip Vital.  The dogs don’t like it and I had to hide it in so much food, Mezza gained nearly 300grams :( :(.  I am now trying 4Cyte which the dogs will eat on its own and they are given only six little “bullets” of it a day.  So if anyone wants to buy one unopened 500g powder and one opened, but hardly used, make me an offer :).  I paid $100 total for them both.

That was pretty much the experience I had. Maybe it does work if you can get enough of it into them or have a garbage guts dog who will eat it willingly, but the taste seems to be so bad, that even a small amount mixed through peanut butter and smeared on a big slice of honey ham, it's still not palatable.

We both use it and sell it in the shop.

I always recommend first time users start at a tiny dose to get their pet used to it and avoid the runs. Build up for a week, then go to the loading dose. It can be mixed with water, gravy (homemade without additives), a bit of peanut butter, etc, what your dog likes. Some people freeze it in popsicles over summer. Others make a little meatball. But many, many of our customers simply sprinkle.

My husband has used it for a couple of years after hip surgery and only notices how well it works when he's off it. I think that is a good indicator.

RHV are very approachable if you email or call them and may have tips on using it for those super fussy ones.
