RuralPug
@Rascalmyshadow Are there breeders that you know and trust that you could approach to see if they perhaps have someone on their waiting list looking for a adult pet dog? The advantage there is that you will have other experienced heads helping with the vetting out of potential homes. Also you can contact TARS (The Animal Rehoming Service) in Melbourne, I think that they still handle private rehomes. Find them on FB and they also have a web page. Rascalmyshadow
Hi sorry for not replying, I don’t have any breeder connections or any other real connections in the animal industry, when I gave up rescuing then grooming I completely removed myself from the dog world (except these forums). Rascalmyshadow
I have finally got up the courage to put Hugo up for adoption on the suggested Facebook page, I have numerous great sounding homes to chose from so hopefully one will be just right. i now feel, sick, nervous and can’t sleep. Tassie
A tough decision. Hopefully among those replies is the perfect home for Hugo.

A great page but some of the people's comments have been really inappropriate. Keep the faith, some of the replies sounded promising!
Rascalmyshadow
I have decided to leave the group, I don’t have the mental energy to deal with so many nasty people. i guess if the few I’ve spoke to in person don’t work out we’ll just get on with life and do the best we can for Hugo. Hard to believe people think I should give him away for nothing especially not even knowing how much I am asking for him.

Just ignore them, you may have missed my post but I've been in there challenging their ignorance.
Rascalmyshadow
Thank you I’m normally quite resilient but being quite pregnant (only 12 weeks to go) and having to make such a horrible decision is taking its toll without the added stuff

I'm happy to help you with the applications if you like.
Rascalmyshadow
Thank you I’ve spoken to a few people today, only one sounded perfect but she isn’t sure if he’ll work out because he doesn’t use the dog door, I’m going to give it another try over the next few days and see if I can persuade him to go through it. The others although nice people don’t sound like he is suitable for them.

Then spend 5 minutes 3 times a day with treats and hopefully someone on the other side and put him back and forth . Sometimes they are better if you can hold the flap up and I cut a shower curtain into strips and pasted that over the hole - my last foster was here for a few months and wouldn't go through the flap but once I replaced it with the cut up shower curtain she was immediately out of it!
Rascalmyshadow
The shower curtain is a great idea, that might work for my female cat, she won’t use it either.

I have to confess - even as a seasoned rescuer who has had many fosters since 2002, my foster dog was driving me crazy - every day coming home to clean up so much mess …. It was someone on an Italian Greyhound page that suggested the shower curtain and it was immediate success. Italians are a nightmare with that sort of thing and i'd tried for weeks and weeks (they aren't the sharpest tool in the box) to train her to use it. Rascalmyshadow
I never worried about the dogs using it, normally I just let them out when they ask, the only reason we put it in was so the cats could go in and out without the chickens getting inside. Fair enough but i've never been lucky enough to have a dog that asked to go out!
Papillon Kisses
Rascal, if things don’t work out, look up Family Paws Parent Education. Several of the Aus people do Skype/phone consults (if you enquire, they may not advertise it). They specialise in this stuff. I second switching to soft flaps. We had to do that for Mal though we used a light clear plastic material... kind of like a plastic tablecloth but clear. I think people use it to protect tables but still see them? Don’t know the name! Edited September 19, 2018 by Papillon Kisses

Thanks and yes I know the plastic stuff you are talking about, hopefully changing over to something like that won’t mean the chooks will work it out, they are pretty smart.
Rascalmyshadow
After being in contact with numerous interested people I have a lady coming to meet Hugo on Friday, I have very mixed feelings about it all but my gut is telling me she seems like the ideal home. Apart from him being in a stimulating environment with no competition she is also happy to bring him back to me for grooming so at least I’ll be able to make sure he’s being well cared for.
