Janey Posted July 28, 2018 Share Posted July 28, 2018 We have a 6 month old staffy puppy who went into a sydney specialist vet for surgery on his soft palate and tonsils this week. He was in the vet for two days. His surgery went well and has recovered great. However when we went to pick him up, one of his back legs was lame, could not put any pressure on his leg. He is extreme pain from it. Throughout the two days they made no mention of his injury and we only found out when picking him up. He has had no treatment for it. After coming home the surgeon called and asked to go back in next week to check out the leg. It's been over 2 days since coming home and still not able to use his leg and in pain. He is on some pain killers from his surgery, but can still notice the pain. We're not sure of how he injured it as we have heard different stories from many different people when being picked up. We aren't sure of the diagnosis of the leg either. He has had no problem with his leg and had no injury when we dropped him off. Is there any duty of care requirements when in the vet clinics? I tried to look it up but couldn't find anything and no waiver was signed. I understand that there is risks involved with surgeries but this is a completely different body area that happened before the surgery as supposedly the surgeon was told during the operation. No treatment was given while in their care and was only mentioned when we picked him up. We are now extremely worried that we will have to pay thousands for more surgeries to fix this issue and concerned about the care when he was there as this issue was ignored and not treated. Our poor boy is so young and now cannot even walk and in extreme pain when he has had no problems at all with his leg before his vet visit. I second this... front up there today and demand that he be seen and treated now. And you aren't paying a cent as he was injured whilst in their care...
