Loba
Friends of mine are looking to get a family dog that will be predominantly a companion to their 11 year old daughter. I have suggested a CKCS but they are adamant they want a dog the size of a Labrador at least. Could an 11 year old manage a Golden or a Lab? Anyone else have any better suggestions please? persephone
The family needs to want a dog . the 11 yr old needs to REALLY be committed to caring for and training a dog . What dog does SHE want ? Getting a dog SHE does not like the look/size/popular image of will possibly mean she will not invest as much into its care & training . have you spoken to her ,away from the family ..just conversationally ? maybe go thru dog books, or online sites together ..see what she thinks ? Some of these links may be of use LINK LINK LINK LINK 4
Dogsfevr
Given they say a family pet I gather the whole family will be involved in its training whether big or small . Children can handle any breed if the right training has been put in . An untrained Davie May be smaller to deal with but can still be just as unpleasant as a big dog . do they want a smooth coat do they want to brush a coated breed includes the 11 yr old . are they prepared to spend money at a groomers for a coated bred. inside or outside dog car size and outings what will best fit there potential lifestyle . swimming no swimming something to snuggle ,easy to pick up ,costs less or more to feed ,costs less or more for product treatments etc Start a list like this for the family and see what they really want. 3
