Tassie
A lot of dogs, mine included (on different diets) will eat a bit of dirt, but "pooing mud" doesn't sound normal. I he were mine, I would be collecting a faecal sample and organising a vet check.

A few questions for some more detail? Then we may be able to suggest something useful . When is the mud eating happening? Where is it happening ? What other things does the dog have access to instead of mud at these times ? Toys/ grass? beds? bones? other dogs , for example has dog always done this ..or what has changed .have you had a lot of rain , moved house , used fertiliser, changed routine ? What is dog normally fed , and when ,each day ? What sort of routine do you have for your dog during the day /week If a dog does eat sand/mud..yep, it's gotta come out the other end ...not ideal, and best to do some detective work, find a reason- then work around it
PossumCorner
Isn't it like poo eating - some do and some don't. Mostly when they either young and stupid, or very old and slightly senile. Or in-between. I don't think it is deficiency related, more habit.
