twodoggies2001 Posted April 30, 2018 Share Posted April 30, 2018 Saw on the TV news and in the paper that a pet shop was broken into and 4 Cockapoo puppies worth tens of thousands of dollars, were stolen from a Camberwell pet shop in Melbourne. Some were 9 weeks old and some were 7 weeks old. It was stated in the newspaper that being so young, the puppies needed constant care. It seems not because it appears they were in their glass enclosure for the night. Would the store owner be held responsible or the so called breeder for having 7 week old puppies for sale? mackiemad Posted April 30, 2018 Share Posted April 30, 2018 Ah, that would be rainbow jungle. They cater to a certain kind of market and charge an absolute bundle for their puppies. Also, wasn't selling puppies and kittens in pet shops banned in Vic recently? I that they all had to be up for adoption through a rescue via the store now. I stood firm telling them that there were “schnoodles” advertised for more than my purebreds were. They bought my puppy and we are good friends now. Is it still in transition? >:( I dont care what price they are sold at or breed/mix, I care about their critical socialisation periods and parental/health care. I would think it’d be joint since both breeder and pet shop were not abiding by the law? On the age aspect if not the puppy store law changes that may or may not have started yet. Although googling it seems that law IS in effect now but it is not being regulated? How is it being enforced? So someone can come in, meet the pups, choose one, pay for it and pick it up 3 days later when it is 8 weeks old. I'm not sure how the no selling pups in pet shops is supposed to be enforced or who is supposed to be doing the enforcing... They just can't be sold and sent to new homes before 8 weeks - the law is designed to keep pups with mum but that is really up to the person who bred them I guess. I love it when people ask me, The poor mum she must be so sad to see her puppies leaving. by 5 weeks she is begging me for "time out" from her rampaging crew. all that envergy by that age all mum wants is some peace, quiet and time out with me. or if im not available and busy, either outside playing in the yard of if going out and prefer her safe in her run, I make sure she has a nice high enough so the mauraders cant get up there too, flat roofed kennel she can snoose on undisturbed yes puppies have rights too, but so has their mum Edited May 5, 2018 by asal 2 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Many will spend a short time, very short!, playing with the pups but they do not hang around with the pups for hours at a time. Other pups teach bite inhibition and social manners mainly. Most of my pups taught each other, the adults were much more indulgent. Agree. They learn bite inhibition from their siblings... not their dam. My litters start biting tails, ears and penises at about 5 weeks. They have generally quit, or at least tempered their biting enough that the screaming stops, by 8 weeks. I agree with the no leaving home before 8 weeks and sure took long enough to be illegal to sell an unvaccinated pup. as I would say to anyone who wanted their pup not vaccinated, "what? you want to buy a dead pup? I can tell you it will be dead if its not vaccinated and I can tell you distemper and parvo are an awful way to die. if they don't die, distemper leaves them brain damaged anyway" Edited May 6, 2018 by asal Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
