Yes it depends what you want in a dog. A well bred well reared  SharPei is an absolute treasure, but still not everyone’s cup of tea. Personally I like Peis as I quite like an aloof independent animal with an innate sense of self and unwavering loyalty without overt aggression. And I quite like a dog that really isn’t fussed about other dogs or crave their attention. I guess it’s why my big love is Chows.

Not everyone wants a benign fluff ball to take to the dog park and sit at the cafe.

Good luck with your pups. Choose well bred pups and rear them well and respect them for their inherent traits.

One of the things that makes 2 pups at the one time more of a commitment, especially in a breed that needs a lot of positive exposure to the outside world (socialisation) is that they really need to be taken out individually, so that each individual pup is learning ... not just relying on the other .. especially if they are littermates.   Of course this is true to some extent when socialising any pup.  Not so much a problem if there are at least 2 humans in the household able to do that.

It is the reality you stated @persephone based on many years of your personal experience and you also stated the positive part, which is a BIG :heart: positive, so there is no way you need to apologize.

Being that it is a discussion forum of course people will give their opinions based on personal experience.

My one personal experience was full on and really difficult at times and although I would choose not to do that ever again I don’t regret for one second that I did do it and wouldn’t change that experience for the world.

Anyway OP sorry I didn’t have any answers  for your original question but best wishes with your new additions to the family. :)
