RuralPug Posted November 30, 2017 Share Posted November 30, 2017 So apparently Pet Rescue have heard the screams about their donation buttons etc. They claim to be developing a way for a "Donate to Desex" button to be available on active pet listings (who defines "active"? ) which will allow donations to go directly to groups. They are hoping it will be active in about 12 months. I have soooo many questions. On the surface, it looks great - but the technology is readily available for a button to link directly to a group's website (providing they have money handling facilities in place) so why allow almost a year for development - unless (oops my cynicism button has been pressed) they want to design a way for any money to be temporarily held in PR accounts before being sent on to the group? Why don't Petrescue let rescue groups do what they do best and they go back to providing a forum to advertise rescue animals. Now they get to collect more donor details by using a button on our dogs. They raised $30k+ in corporate money for a poorly advertised cat subsidy program this year and spent a pitiful amount reimbursing the groups that actually participated. Fine print there was; if you wanted the subsidy you had to hand over your adopter's details in advance. Not a hope in hell PR. Aren't rescue groups already processing donations and aren't there already a bazillon tools a group could use to do so? Also, keep in mind 'donate buttons' do jack shit. Any and all donations processing tools are only as good as the solicitation which accompanies them. While JB tries to explain why they want and an exorbitant amount of money, to build a 'button' while not actually rescuing anything. But it's all for our own good you know because they offer a 'bunch of other services' and really work hard with us to help rehome pets. Aren't they wonderful. Don't hold your breath waiting for this imaginary money to come rolling in once this gets set up. A truly honest service wouldn't collect every email and hit up every single inquiry we get before we even have a chance to respond. JRT RESCUE Posted December 2, 2017 Share Posted December 2, 2017 I actually sent an email to them asking how this was going to work and why donations wouldn't be coming to us until Spring 2018. True except we're talking about 1 entity whose revenue last year was over $1mil (as reported in their financials which every charity must submit). And they call themselves Pet Rescue. You can be forgiven for thinking the donations go to us because the wording is very clever. BUT They don't rescue our dogs, they don't pay for desexing and they don't rehome. All they do is run a trading post for dogs/cats to be listed on. This latest 'Desexmas' cash grab of $50k to $100k is to make amendments to their website. None of it goes to desexing a single pet. shel Posted December 12, 2017 Share Posted December 12, 2017 The same kind-hearted people who donated to 'The Adoptables' - a solicitation campaign to help rescue pets which ran in 2016 and gave no money to rescue groups, then in 2017 (after being shamed online) gave 1 day's funds to groups - are now being targeted again for 'Desexmas' a desexing campaign where not a single dollar is being spent on desexing. Where will rescue get their funds to care for pets this Christmas when PetRescue is redirecting vital rescue group funds into their own "programs and services" which seem to be nearly entirely about increasing donor revenues? 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
