teekay
Ok, first off, I know she's a husky and huskies shed ALOT. We've had her for 7 years now so I get it But in the last few days the shedding has been next level. She is literally losing her entire undercoat along her back. I don't think it's a skin problem, the skin isn't sore or crusty or anything like that and she isn't losing the top coast just ALL of her undercoat. She has ongoing liver problems (hepatitis) which we have been monitoring. Last bloods taken about a month ago were looking ok. She's on Denosyl and Ursofalk for her condition. Nothing else at the moment. She was on steroids but we weaned her off those over a month ago as they were making her liver worse. Her specialist has been away for a few days but she is due to call me today. Just wondering if any other husky owners out there had experienced quite such a radical coat shed out of the blue like this.
RuralPug
If she is really blowing out her coat more than the twice yearly blow out you're accustomed to then it could easily be a side effect of the steroids. Have a chat to your specialist about it, they can give you the best idea of coat recovery time after ceasing the steroids.
cannibalgoldfish
How is her thyroid?
Simply Grand
Quinn (Aussie Shep) seems to be having a MASSIVE coat drop this time around!!! She drops twice a year (5.5 year old entire bitch, drops 8 weeks before a season) but there seems to be more hair than usual this time around...she does have a mild skin irritation in a patch on her back, which I suspect is a flea bite reaction as she's allergic, but no sign of current fleas. I'm thinking either weather or my imagination, but I'm in Brisbane and from memory you're down south (sorry, can't see on my phone) so our weather is very different at the moment =\ Whatever it is, I sympathise!

Thanks RP, I spoke to her specialist yesterday and she isn't concerned as long as Mya isn't actually getting any bald spots so I'll just keep combing the undercoat out. It is unseasonably warm so that may be the reason. 15 hours ago, cannibalgoldfish said: How is her thyroid? Not sure Cannibal. She has regular blood tests because of her liver so I will ask to maybe check those levels next test? What other symptoms, if any, should I be looking for, if her thyroid levels were out of whack? 9 hours ago, Simply Grand said: Quinn (Aussie Shep) seems to be having a MASSIVE coat drop this time around!!! We're Sunny Coast SG and yes, it has been ridiculously warm. Next week we're apparently going to reach 30 degrees. WTH
