Deni
Hi all, I'm really stuck on a question in the Genetics part of the open book exam. The question is, Which factors suppress the expression of recessive factors? can anyone please point me in the right direction to where I can find the answer, as the dog breeders education booklet isn't very clear. Thank you!
RuralPug
I haven't read the education booklet (got my prefix in the 70s before exams) but the first thing that comes to mind is that recessive factors will only ever be expressed when there is not a dominant to screen them. You must get two copies of a recessive before it can be expressed. Google mendelian genetics to get a good understanding of this, Just realised this is in the wrong forum - I'll ask for it to be moved. Bushriver
I can't remember answering g this question, but would it not just be that dominant will suppress recessive?
sandgrubber
Awful wording. I'd guess they are looking for the word dominant. But as I understand it, dominant genes don't repress recessives. They preclude their expression. Repress implies active interference. To say dominant genes repress recessives is bit like saying birth control pills repress pregnancy, or a vaccination represses a disease.
