and just found a site I thought may help me, and people have, been nice and tried to help, so if anyone had come up with any breed I would have been so happy.

I will butt out now, and hope I did not upset people but it was just naivety on my part.

Phyl, for what it’s worth, I thought some of the posts here were totally out of line, unwarranted and unnecessarily judgemental.  Some people think because they are across an issue and know the ins and out, that everybody else should be, and no excuses if they aren’t.  Like the old saying, they use a sledgehammer to crack a nut and in the process alienate the newcomer.

That said, no matter how delightful, how beautiful, how gorgeously natured a little dog who is a cross between a Maltese and a Poodle is just that: a cross between a Poodle and a Maltese.  There is no such breed as a Moodle. :)  :)   A little dog who is the offspring of a Maltese and a Poodle, despite whatever the website you linked wants to say and promote, is not a purebred, it is a cross breed.  Again: there is no such breed as a Moodle.

Don't go away Phyl pleeeeeeease! People who get frustrated and upset over an issue can sometimes be a bit emotional and, let us admit, bombastic which can certainly be overwhelming, it does happen on all sorts of public communications media. We can sometimes attempt to educate with a shotgun rather than reasoning, as has been said.

Apologies if you felt shotgunned.Welcome to our little DOL family - all families have the odd tiff LOL.

We can't wait to watch photos and hear stories of your little girl as she grows up, and of all your other fur family too! :)

Don't worry Phyl, you didn't come across as offensive and we're all always learning.

My oldest dog, who will be 8 on 1 July, is a toy poodle x maltese. I got him from a breeder as a 6.5 week old puppy after searching for a "moodle" puppy for a while because I knew someone who had one and he was a great little dog. Saxon is great little dog too. He wasn't from a puppy farm, I met both his parents, who were much loved family pets and he was well cared for and socialised. However his parents weren't health tested, which I would never accept in a dog was getting from a breeder again, and he should have stayed with his mum and litter mates untul he was 8 weeks coz his nipping was BAD as a puppy. Fortunately he has turned out brilliantly temperament and health wise and is a pleasure (most of the time) as I'm sure your girl will be. I refer to him as poodle x or poodle x maltese and have nevet had any issues with him being accepted on DOL.

I have done obedience and agility classes with him and various trick training and he thrives on it so I'd recommend something like that, plus Poodles can be stubborn little manipulators so just keep in the back of your mind to make sure you are training her and not the other way round ;)

Well this is boring the sh#t out of me now.

Lets turn up ask for a designer crossbred, don't want to pay pedigree prices, want a dog NOW , so can't wait for rescue, go buy a puppy farm puppy,( more expensive than a purebred they didn't want to pay for), woe is me everyone hates me, everyone is now sucking up , don't leave, blah blah.

Going soft DOL, or troll?

And the first little dog below is still waiting at her local pound http://www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/Our_Services/Animals_and_Pets/Lost_Animals and the second one has just come in.

They both look to be in need and the second one looks thoroughly neglected. I am not sure how long this pound holds dogs for but I hope they both find safety. I wonder if they are both ex puppy farm dogs.

Or just aware that calling people stupid for buying a designer dog for a large price tag when they've already done it is just going to alienate them and stop them from sticking around to learn more and then hopefully share new knowedge with others.

I have no intention of sucking up to a moron who asked for advice then bought a puppy farm dog . The deed is done , seller is rubbing their hands together and buyer learnt nothing  from coming here for advice other than to ignore it . I'm done with people who don't care about where their dogs come from and the misery they are creating by supporting it .

Getting old and cranky and suffer fools less .

well, that escalated quickly. :whiteflag:

I doubt personal attacks/name calling will help anybody, we can only try and educate people on puppy farms and why it isn't advisable to purchase designer dogs.   We won't reach everybody, but now that the deed is done, it's best they stick around and feel welcomed enough to ask for help if it's needed with other things like training, etc.

The lady we bought 'Pebbles' from gave us $500 of terrific goodies and a brand new crate with her name and details on, ready to go on the plane.

Sadly her Vet. said not a good thing to do to take her, as she is too young to take the trip to Rome and may never make it :().

Pebbles, her new owner told us before we decided on her, was bred in a home with an adult family (so is quite happy with Peter and I.

We are not completely crazy..... a Puppy farm pup. no.........................:( Not Morons as you suggested Juice

I am 80 years of age, recovering from Cancer - remission 4 & 1/2 years plus pacer because of heart, and more, but still 'carer for my wonderful husband who has had a stroke and recurrence of child polio of the throat which makes swallowing difficult.

I am a registered Yoga teacher and still 'stand on my head each day lol. and try never to 'do my lolly'

I am sure a couple may come back with "YOU ARE TOO OLD" but our daughter bringing up a son on her own, is so happy for us, and we are going to put Pebbles in our will, to go to our daughter.

Pebbles is my 'therapy puppy' as I was desperate. Yes I came on here not understanding what you were and your strong theories, and was happy to have Dog finished breeding up to 5 years of age.

This little puppy was sent to me by God I believe.

Juice o.k. I am boring you, but I am not after any sympathy, maybe a tiny smidge of empathy.

I just felt the need to have you kind folk understand we are the same as you re Puppy mills.

I was hoping against someone would say "we have a puppy" we would have paid what was asked.

All the best and although I was not going to "pour my heart out' but was upset being called a moron, and definitely bought from a puppy farm << ....not true.

Thanks again folks

Phyl. and Peter.

Yep, I'm disappointed too but it's done now and to be completely honest we have probably turned a few 'want it now' off onto gumtree by being unable to match an applicant with a dog immediately. But we always refer back to PetRescue or to legit group or pound who uses FB or their website to advertise rather than PetRescue. There's a lot of dogs out there and it's just a matter of timing and searching.

There's google, and for anyone googling dog information, the top search that comes up is still DOL. And this thread will be read and perhaps absorbed if we keep welcoming people no matter what their dog or knowledge level is then they will come back to DOL for the reams of information on training, health, general questions and finding a purebred etc. Given, in this case a bit more absorbing should have been done but such is life. Ive seen many more threads that have ended in rescue adoption or purchasing from a registered breeder.

Just a P.S. If anyone had come up with any small female Pedigreed dog, ( here, (because I liked the sound of you)

I would have said YES, Yes yes immediately, and the cost would have been perhaps around $2,000, I would not have blinked an eye and would have been SO happy.

I agree enough of my thread now, but just needed a 'right of reply'

Hey Phyl. Love the name Pebbles. And I applaud you taking on a pup at your age and totally understand that she will make you and your husband so happy. She will give so much love and put laughter back in your lives after all that has been said here. Our little fur babies give love unconditionally and do not descriminate. Wish you all the best with Pebbles - lots of games, fun and puppy cuddles.

Interesting that you now say you were prepared to pay $2000 for a purebred , but previously said only $1200 . You could have got a well bred pup from here for $2000 if you had called breeders . You may not have directly bought her from a puppy farmer , but that's where she came from . Hopefully she won't have lots of health issues down the track .

I have been here a log time and it gets rather draining when new people come for advice then completely ignore it .

WOW - a pup at 80.  Good on you Phyl.  I’ll bet you probably look not more than 60, if that, and probably feel about 40, being a long time practioner of yoga.

I’ve been babysitting a little L/H Chihuahua (only a few years old) for about 5 weeks at it has been so much fun.  It is long time since I’ve had a young dog and she makes me laugh a dozen times a day.   Unfortunately, she goes home on Friday - I was thinking of making a run for it with her, but I have to think of my three oldies :laugh:.  However, the organisation (Paws & Recover) has another even younger little dog waiting in the wings for me.   :eek:.   I’ll have to delve deep into the recesses and try to remember some training.

Juice if you go back to Phyl’s first post, she wasn’t looking for advice - she was looking for a dog.

I am having difficulty with your rudeness and harshness, particularly when everyone was very supportive of you and your search and from what you have posted, your dog probably has a diverse ancestry and the people who sold him were not very nice.

I'm with you DDD. I have been watching this thread and after reading today's posts I just feel like enough is enough. The poor woman just wanted a sweet little dog to cuddle. And thank goodness, she now has one:flower:

Thank you so very much folks. My heart was a little heavy recently and now I feel so happy, as this puppy is absolute perfection.

The puppy was bred as I did say by a family........ who wanted their female to have a litter before spaying, which I had not mentioned and @ 8 weeks Rita the lady who has been called back home to Rome bought her, but sadly has had to give her up, after spending a lot of money on a beautiful bed and Puppy security play pen, and plane carry crate, and a shoulder bag to take her around with her, and heaps of lovely toys and bags of Vet food.

I was just 'behind the 8 ball when I suggested $1,200 for a cross bred dog around 2-4 years old but a Pure bred of course I would have paid more. p.s. would have paid more than $1.500 plus giving the lady an extra $150

I am much more 'with it now thank you' lol.

This puppy never leaves my side and loves me as I love her and sleeps on either Peter or my pillow, and a true dream come true and helped me at a time when I needed help..

I have so enjoyed reading about all your lovely dogs.

Phyl, I'm so glad she's making you happy. I have never once regretted getting my poodle x Maltese,  Saxon, he is my little right hand man, he's had to deal with a fair bit of change in our lives since I've had him and he has just rolled with it, he's happy as long as he's with me, he makes me laugh all the time and he has accepted two younger and bigger "siblings" and multiple rescue fosters into our home and despite his moments of stubborness, will do anything I ask him to.

I'm a huge advocate of responsible breeding, including testing for any genetic health issues, and appropriate early care and socialisation of puppies as my experience and research indicates to me that these things are vital in creating happy, healthy, stable dogs, and also of ANYONE placing a dog in a home to work hard to ensure the dog and the home are a suitable match, not just "someone who has the money" so I absolutely object to puppy farms and people who breed their dogs without any care or thought but I don't believe that's the case with you. I think Pebbles has her forever home now and it will be a good one :) And if you go on to tell other people how important it is to really look into where their pup is coming from, ask questions and support breeders doing the right thing, then that's only for the benefit of dogs.

oh and also, when you have a chance, we definitely need photos!
