My dog had what looked like a cyst- the vet sad it was probably an embedded grass seed and he needed an anesthetic to remove it. I said I wasn't happy with that and would like to try drawing it out instead. He was given a course of antibiotics and an appointment to have his anesthetic in a week. I decided to try BLACK SALVE - usually a no-no with doctors and vets. I appllied it as  would to myself and left it for 24hrs and low and behold - it drew out the seed and left a nice clean hole which I put betadine on.

a little severe I think.

maybe next time use magnoplasm, it works and is of less concern on the skin.

I would rather poke a stick into my eye than put that on my dogs, it is irresponsible to do so

there is another "black salve/ointment " which works fine & can be bought at chemists ? perhaps the OP used this one instead ?  It is called Ichthammol

if the OP used Ichthammol it'll do the dog's skin no damage, it has been a natural and safe remedy for aeons so let's just hope :)

Government agencies are usually fairly conservative in their wording.  So I though it was novel that the Therapeutic Goods Administration said of black salve:

"Your shouldn't sell snake oil".

Years ago coal tar ointment was used for anything and everything.  Wonder if that's the same ingredients.

Not as far as I know , but it's not as good as once it was :(

maybe they took the coal tar out of it as it's carcinogenic, try using pine tar ointment instead...it's pretty good
