Bushriver
Does anyone know what causes this bent ear?
RuralPug
I've never seen anything like that before. Was she born with it or did i happen later?
Bushriver
Happened later. Becoming more prominent as she grows. At 8 weeks it looked completely normal. She's about 12 weeks now.
RuralPug
Sorry I can't help. Only thing that I can think of is some sort of ligament contraction. If it doesn't bother her I wouldn't be too worried at this stage. Have you discussed this with your vet?
Bushriver
She's not mine. Just trying to help out a friend. It doesn't bother her, so not really a worry. Could it be a genetic thing? Has anyone heard of something like this? Vet is not sure.
Mjosa
I cannot get the photo of the puppy, but at between 8 and twelve weeks puppies start to teeth and that can take a couple of months, then every thing can be back to how they should be, that can play up with the ears, happens with Frenchies quite often, if I could see the photo I could give a better opinion. Bushriver
Not sure why you can't see the pic. Bottom tip of one ear is bent outwards at about 90 degrees. I've never seen it before. I've heard of ears changing with teething but I haven't really experienced that either.

Rebanne
I can no longer see the photo either. But I did see the original. Bo idea why it's happening but you could try taping it and see what happens.

Effieng Tonks
I have encountered this once before with my cousins dog. They rescued a dog that they later named Lefty because his left ear was bent. It hasn't been a problem for them at all and the dog is living a happy and healthy life. As for how it happened, no one is really sure but it has not changed or harmed the dog in anyways. Unfortunately this is all the information I have about the situation but I would love to hear what the cause is if you ever figure out the source. Was Lefty any particular breed or an unknown mix? Was his other ear a drop ear like a labrador or a prick ear like a kelpie or folded like a shetland sheepdog? jemappelle
Is it possible to gently bend the ear so it goes straight or is it fixed in this position? I rescued a pup who had prick ears that curled backward. As he grew, they straightened.

I've had a GSD pup who's ears bent backwards and straightened to normal within a few weeks. Some of her puppies have had the same thing - they're quite small ears which pricked young too which seems strange. I'd expect it more with large soft ears
