You could build your own for that kind of money...

T.

Not if you can't build ;)

As for the kennel - depends on wht you want. I had a great plastic igloo type for years - came apart for scrubbing and removla "treasures" - we kept it up off the ground on bricks and when possible out of the elements - one of these ones: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/ingle-farm/pet-products/dog-kennel-igloo/1121226716 filled with blankies and paper as an insulator. It was also good for sitting on.

Next kennel i get will have some way to seal the door off from the elements a bit better, but really the kennel was only ever a day bed so didnt need to be super awesome.

You could try Stefmar or Vebo. I don't have those particular kennels (ours is one of the side entrance wooden bunnings ones) so can't comment on warmth etc and I have no idea about sizing. The quality from Vebo should be very good if warm enough.

Budget Pet Products also tend to have good prices https://www.budgetpetproducts.com.au/m/category/dog-products/carriers-kennels/kennels/390/ but unlike Stefmar & Vebo they're QLD based so the shipping costs may cancel it out.

Pet stores charge through the nose in comparison BUT some of them price match + add a little discount on top, so that's something to consider.

the Bunnings ones made from timber are pretty low quality: very thin timber, the timber cracks when you try to screw the screws in...everything is very, very flimsy - I bought one of these just to bring it back once I recognized how flimsy it was. You also would have to anchor it somehow in the garden as every stronger wind would blow it over. I agree with T.: for AU$ 300 you could build a real nice solid one.

Mine's great! It was purchased 7 years ago and is still going strong, it's never blown over and I don't think it ever would unless there was a tornado, and it didn't crack when put together... I think it's really solid! I did seal the timber right in the beginning and have redone it since, with timber there will always be some upkeep. It may help that the dog in it is only 4kg.

ETA: I suppose the wood could be thicker which could be a consideration for a heavier dog, but I still can't see it tipping! :)

we get here some nasty gusts - enough to knock the (filled) garbage bins over if they are not secured. And yes, the 4 kg seem to have a smaller destruction potential. I wouldn't call it durable, and I wouldn't call it solid - you get what you pay for in the end, and for me the money is better spent on quality material and approx. 8 hour work.

Are you looking for wood or plastic?

I have both wood and plastic, the dogs seem to prefer the wood, but the plastic ones last longer, and the dogs like to chew the wood, one of them now has a very wide doorway thanks to chewing puppies

It also depends where the kennel will be, if it has no undercover protection doesn't wood in heavy rain just soak in?

I have the big plastic ones, 2 oblong and a huge hexagonal one, easy to hose down and clean and insulated.
