DogsAndTheMob
As well as the interesting discussion, this blog shows some images of pugs in art and history. Queen Victoria's pug looks less extreme in head shape than the pugs in18th and 19th century paintings, so I wonder if there's an element of artistic licence in the paintings - which anticipated the pugs of today. I think the comments below the blog are worth reading, too. Pugs in history and interature Edited July 30, 2016 by DogsAndTheMob

Pugs in history and interature My favorite pug in history tale, which may be fiction, is the story of the pug, Fortune, and Napoleon and Josephine's wedding night. https://mimimatthews...o-bit-napoleon/ Fortune doesn't look much like a modern pug.
