Willem
http://www.diseasewatchdog.org/ that would be pretty handsome if the data is reliable...
tdierikx
It's good, but not 100% accurate, as only vets who have signed up and actually enter data when they have cases is counted. It will give a fairly accurate idea of where disease hotspots are though... Not a bad initiative run by one of the companies that sells the vaccines IMHO. T. Willem
hm...not sure about the reliability of the records - I just did a search for whole Australia for the last 12 month...there is only one case of distemper recorded (Newman / WA) - how can this be?...conversely to parvo the virus doesn't survive very long outside the body, so they must be more than one case? *kirty*
The ferret rescue I volunteer for just bad an outbreak of canine distemper, so it's definitely still out there. This was in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
Maddy
The north west of Tasmania has had an ongoing outbreak of parvo (probably the last three months or so?) but not a single thing listed for that area of the state. Link to a news story about the issue- http://www.themercury.com.au/news/tasmania/warning-after-parvovirus-outbreak-leaves-up-to-20-dogs-dead-on-tasmanias-northwest-coast/news-story/162cd542960757a87ebb20b5dbcd021c If the local paper provides more up-to-date information than the register, pretty likely that the register in question is not likely to be all that useful. sandgrubber
I can't believe there's no heartworm in the NT or QLD and only two cases in WA (both in the North)! Or that there's been only one case of Parvo in WA (also North). I'd say the maps give a false sense of security. Great concept, though. I hope more vets will record and the maps will become credible.
