twopuppas
Hi guys! I have an eight month old pup who sprained her shoulder around two months ago while running across a field. She's been limping ever since. She's been to the vet practically every week since, she's been on Previcox, carprofen on and off, and has had a month worth of cartrophen injections. She's improved to the point where she'll now put her leg on the ground and walk on it, but since this improvement, nothing else has changed. Her x-rays showed up all clear, and she doesn't really appear to be in any pain. She's never cried/whelped and she still tries to run and jump around like crazy (though we do stop her when she tries too). She's been crated on and off, and hasn't been on any walks (only allowed outside to go toilet and never at the same time as my other dog or they'll start playing). She's been to a chiro who gave her two injections and did some manipulation. He also said the muscle was pulled off the bone in the injury and was currently healing back and the top shoulder bone (forgot the name..) was bruised. However, she's still not putting any pressure on her front leg, and is quite stiff when she first gets up after a sleep. I've been adding fish oil, turmeric, green lipped mussel, Joint Guard, coconut oil and MSM to her meals (she's on a raw diet.) We also massage her gently a couple of times a day and put a heat pack on the shoulder to increase blood flow. The vet said it would take between 3-12 months to heal but I'm concerned that her socialisation is being impacted by being in the house for all that time. Just wondering if this has happened to anybody else's dog? How long did it take to heal and did you do anything that seemed to improve them in the meantime? persephone
ouch she doesn't have to be in the house :) Take her out frequently in the car! Take her to places where she can smell/hear/see all sorts of things . I suggest you consult a specialist ... a new pair of eyes ..some expert knowledge never goes astray . Best of luck with it - poor girl .
*kirty*
Time to see a specialist. It's been too long with not much change and your local vets may be missing something that a specialist will pick up.

I do take her out with me to cafes where she can just sit next to us and say hello to those who walk past, but I still feel she isn't having as much fun as she could be! Might be a silly question - but what are the specialists called? I'm in Vic so any recommendations would be great! Time to see a specialist. I'm in VIC, would you have any recommendations? :)
Pjrt
I would also look for a specialist opinion. Others here will have better knowledge of local options for you. My main concern to get her back to full mobility is that while she's off gait, she is putting bigger and unusual pressures on other growing developing joints. *kirty*
Where abouts in Victoria? My first choice would be Dr Arthur House at VRH in Hallam.

Yeah, I'm really hoping it isn't impeding her development too much. The vets don't seem worried. We've seen four different ones and they've all generally said the same thing. I'm just hoping that they're right :/ Where abouts in Victoria? My first choice would be Dr Arthur House at VRH in Hallam. South-East so I can get to Hallam easily :) Thanks for the rec, do you have experience with Dr House?
