Loving my Oldies
I saw a clip on FB today of a chimp being released into the wild. He came back, jumped up on his crate and gave cuddles to Jane Goodall and the other carer. You’d have to have nerves of steel to let him go. Tears all around, I imagine.

Her name is Wounda, and she's at the Jane Goodall Institute's sanctuary in DRC. She's still under human care, but with a great deal of freedom. I'd be drowning in tears!

I can never understand any commentary, so whether there was any or not I don’t recall. I wondered about the conditions of her release. Yes, it was emotional enough watching a tiny youtube ..... IRL would have been so traumatic.

tdierikx
Zombi is doing an awesome job, isn't she? Two perfect happy and healthy young ones... and good looking too! The latest from Taronga is that we should have ourselves another little one very soon - Lani is about to pop any day now... and fingers are crossed that there may be a couple more pregnancies happening too... Samaki has been a very busy boy... *grin* T.
grizabella
Oh my goodness, wow! How on earth are they going to merge the two groups? Perhaps a permanent split is needed, with one group going to another zoo. Zombi's the best. ;)

Zombi's the best. ;) I'm starting to think Taronga might be giving up on the merging of the 2 groups now... some of the girls have it in for the new girls, and Furahi and Kuma could do real damage to Lubutu if Furahi decides he's going to be the alpha of the whole lot - there aren't many that will take on Kuma - and that means all the boys too - she's scary strong and not afraid of anyone or anything... I'm just hoping that Mogo changes their mind about having chimps and our mutual friend gets to do what she does best with a bunch of the Taronga chimps... that will take a huge load off Taronga... so that's my Christmas wish... T. That would be the best solution IMO, but even that would be a long way off... it's a lot of work to build a good chimp facility. Another option could be the new Sydney Zoo, as they are intending to house chimps, though I was under the impression they'd import from outside the region. I have a suspicion that most of the animals fo the new Sydney Zoo may be coming from sources other than Australia... just a suspicion mind... T.
