I've always thought Zuri looks a lot like her mum with just a hint of Sandali's family look (Enzi on the other hand, looks like his dad). I can see some similarities though- I think the hair-do. When Zuri was a little baby she had a similar look to Sembe, but that might have been because she was bald in similar places!
tdierikx
I went to Taronga today... and Fumo is sporting the Zuri baby hairstyle this week... lol! T.
grizabella
Today I saw, for the first time, a whole lot of interaction between Sandali and his kids, Zuri and Enzi. Enzi clearly likes playing with his dad! tdierikx
Gorgeous photos... and a lovely interaction captured... The Taronga "dads" (Shikamoo and Samaki) don't play much with the little ones... more like tolerate their antics until the kids get bored... lol! Shabani is the most likely adult male to actually play with the toddlers, and he's really good with them, he's so gentle and tolerant. Mostly it's Koko that is singled out for playtime with the babies, and given that she's not to be trusted around newborns, she has shown she's an awesome aunty when they are older. When Fumo was tiny, Sule (Sandali's littlest brother) was his babysitter, and would often be seen taking his duties very seriously, spending as much tiime as he could with his little charge. Then as the other 2 babies came along, Kuma, Shiba, and Lisa would tend to stick together in what we called "mothers' group", and poor Sule didn't get much of a look in after that... It's possible that the large size of our group - and the current introductions of 3 new adult females - has contributed to the kids singling out the "safer" options for their adult playmates. Then again, as we have 3 toddlers of fairly similar ages, they play a lot together too, and really have no need to find alternate playmates. Loving my Oldies
That last photograph of Enzi made me think of the older man in the Vicar of Dibley, the one who used to say, “No no no no no no no no yes.” Wonderful photographs as always, Grizabelle, showing the emotions and activities of these amazing families.

grizabella
At a year-and-a-half, Enzi has developed a great head for heights. He likes climbing to the tops of trees and across the ceiling of the two-storey playroom. His favourite trick, though, is climbing a little way and taking a flying leap into a cushioning plant. grizabella
Enzi is now 18 months old, and now looking very much a toddler rather than a baby. He's growing up too fast! She's a big girl, but it's hardly surprising looking at her parents. If I didn't know, I'd probably guess her age at five-and-a-half rather than four-and-a-half. 3 hours ago, persephone said: LOOOVE >>>> I wanna be back at Monarto ... grizabella
As a size comparison, these chimp kids at a South African sanctuary were between the ages of five and seven, and several of them look similar in size to Zuri. grizabella
Here's your Enzi fix for today! He's such a little character; when the males have their disputes, he goes running over all puffed up, to 'sort it out', and gives drama-queen Sandali a hug when he's been smacked around. Even at eighteen months old, Enzi wants to be one of the big boys! I will be surprised if he is not the alpha male someday.
