Simply Grand
I don't know if it differs from state to state but you probably have to go the the state canine association websites for the actual guidelines rather than ANKC :)

BlaznHotAussies
Dogswest 2.16 A member shall not breed with a bitch unless the bitch has reached adequate maturity for thatbreed as determined by the member’s Member Body. The minimum breeding age for bitchesacross all breeds is twelve (12) months at the time of mating. Except in extenuatingcircumstances or with the approval of Governing Council prior to the mating, a member shallnot breed from any bitch causing it to be mated before it is twelve months of age. 08/14 2.17 A member shall not breed a bitch causing it to whelp either; more than twice in eighteen months or more than twice in three successive heat seasonswithout the prior approval of the member’s Member Body. 2.18 A member shall not breed a bitch causing it to whelp more than six times without prior veterinarycertification of fitness for further breeding, and without prior approval of the member’s MemberBody. Breeders that wish to breed a seventh (7th) litter must attach to the litter registration form, written veterinary certification of fitness for further breeding, dated prior to the date of themating. I think they're assuming that a registered, ethical breeder isn't going to just go ahead and breed an aged dog. Maybe you should write to them if you're so worried about it There are also plenty of breeds that are middle-aged or at least not too old to have puppies at 8 years of age. Especially a dog that's made an excellent mother & is healthy. It would be a shame to cut off dogs any earlier even if they're perfectly healthy. (By plenty of breeds I'm thinking of smaller breeds and some medium sized breeds, I know an Aussie bitch who had a litter at 8 years old - very healthy girl and an excellent mother). You can't regulate every single decision a breeder makes. And a veterinary certificate means that a vet considers a dog fit to breed. Another note, breeding dogs can be a time-sensitive exercise. Sometimes you'll only have access to certain bloodlines that you want to mix with a certain bitch, by then it may mean she's a bit older...it's good that there is a way to get permission through a vet certificate if necessary. Too bad they couldn't just simply trust that the person who is living with them will make the right decision and not do something that would be against the welfare of the dog. But of course purebred breeders are potential animal abusers and criminals so best to placate the loonies and write it into their regs.

Steve
Dont you love these two 20.1.17 A member shall not, within Australia, sell or otherwise transfer from that member's care any puppy under eight [8] weeks of age without the approval of the Victorian Canine Association Inc; A member shall not export a puppy under the age of eleven [11] weeks, or such greater age permitted under the livestock import requirements of the country to which the puppy is being exported. When Dan Mcdougall was operating in Hawaii puppies were sold to his agent Transpet - PIAA registered and shipped out the Monday after they turn 8 weeks. sheena
WOW...thanks guys for all the info. A little bit of overload though...enough to pickle the brains of these teenagers that I am doing this for  If I hit them with all that, they would just go back to looking at their mobile phones, while I am talking So in the end, I just put " An ANKC Registered Breeder is bound by regulations set out by the State body of ANKC, restricting breeding practices including minimum age of the bitch, & how many times she can be bred from & how often" Sound simple ????
