Just posting this here for everyone :)

All Paws Paradise is proud to present Fred Helfers in Queensland for three jam-packed days of Nosework from the 20th to 22nd of February including Queensland’s first ORT (odour recognition test). This range of seminars and workshops has something for everyone, whether you have just heard about Nosework & want to find out more or if you are already in training getting ready for your first trial.

Seminars and Workshops on offer:

Saturday 20th February- 9am to 5pm

Olfaction and Odours - Seminar - $150.00

The Nosework dog handler must learn to interpret their dog’s behaviour when detecting odour molecules. The handler should have an understanding of the dog’s olfactory system and the odour molecules the dog detects. This seminar is for everyone who has a dog and is interested in how dogs use their nose to detect odours. This 8 hour seminar will cover the areas of Canine Olfaction, how the canine nose works, scent discrimination, factors effecting odours and utilizing your knowledge of Odours and Olfaction in Nosework. This seminar forms the basis for all of Fred’s seminars and workshops and is a prerequisite to the others workshops being held.

Sunday 21st February- 9am to 12pm

Odour Recognition Test - $30 (limited places available)

Trial entry requires that handler/dog teams must have passed the appropriate Odour Recognition Test (ORT) in advance of the trial. The purpose of the ORT is to verify that the dogs know the target odour (scent) used in competition. Successful passage of an ORT requires a dog to identify the location of the target odour and the handler to correctly call an ‘alert’ (or equivalent) within a three-minute time period. Please be advised handlers and dogs must be registered with the Australian Canine Scent Work- ACSW (http://www.acsw.com.au/) in order to enter the ORT.

Sunday 21st February- 1pm to 5pm

Handler Error - Seminar “Identifying the 10 most Common Handler Error Faults” - $75.00

This 4 hour lecture specifically focuses on Handler Error and incorporates both video and power point presentations. Experience has shown that by establishing and applying a consistent maintenance training program, the areas of handler error (e. g. leash handling, detailing skills, reading changes of behaviour, search patterns, cueing, considering environment) are easily understood and correctable. The experienced canine handler will quickly recognize that there are many situations that can lead to handler error.

Monday 22nd February- 9am to 5pm

Foundation to Finesse All Day Practical Workshop

Working Teams $300.00 (limited working sports available) Auditors $100.

In this all day workshop, Fred will work hands on with teams to improve training, team work and competition. The workshop covers handler skills, reading your dog, and training drills that define patterned searches and handler / dog communication with minimal intrusion on the dog working to an odour source.

Please note ALL workshops and seminars have limited capacity – so first in best dressed!!

We are only taking registrations at this time and we will notify you if your successful in securing a position – payment details will be provided at this time.

Please note that in order to secure your position (s), payment will need to be received by 16th January 2016. We will also have a waiting list for all seminar and workshop positions. Seminar & Workshop locations depend on numbers but will be held in the Gold Coast/ South Brisbane areas.
