amanda9259
I have a 12 year old border collie male. For the last 12 months he has started to show signs of aging and soreness. He is limpimg occasionally, alot less active and generally more of a lay about. He has a good weight on him, a tad too much but other wise very healthy. Any suggestions on what supplements i can give him to assist with his stiffness.
CHA
Joint guard is what we use here on their food each night. Also go see the vet for some cartrophen injections and advice. Weight management is also very important to ensure he is not too heavy causing more pain on his joints. Lots of other types of supplements for you to try as well. sheena
How much does he weigh ??? Rose Hip Vital Canine is what a lot of people swear by. I give it to my guys as a preventative. If you do a search you will find a few threads on it here on DOL.

tdierikx
I've found that keeping my oldies on the leaner side does wonders for their achey joints... that, and a nice bed with high sides to stop any draughts getting to them overnight... and a nice soft fluffy cushion in said bed... *grin* T. ness
I used Rose Hip Vital Canine with my two and my old BC did brilliantly on it.
Mjosa
Sasha's blend has helped my son's Rottie. She has done well on that, just sprinkle it over the dinner at night.
Jumabaar
I would also discuss pain medication with your vet. Not being as active can certainly be a sign of pain. One of the best 'treatments' for arthritis is gentle activity, so starting pain meds may get your dog active enough to not need pain meds.
Pretty Miss Emma
I have just added a 14.5 year old BC to my household and to be honest she isn't on heaps for arthritis. As has been mentioned weight is really important - keep your dog healthily lean, more weight is more stress on joints. Nana is getting a cartrophen injection once a month. I also have her on turmeric paste, and periodic glucosamine. I have been told in terms of natural things you can also add apple cider vinegar to their food and parsley as both of these have natural anti-inflammatory properties. Good bedding, not having them sleep in draughts and continuing moderate exercise also. I had my previous dog on Sasha's blend and it seemed to help her out. Oh and omega oils. trifecta
I have found with supplements it is a case of give it a go and see. Some dogs respond to a certain supplement where another individual may not. I have an older dog on green lipped mussel capsules which have really helped; Rosehip Vital, however, did nothing for the dog, but plenty for me! BCPuppy
Marlin was diagnosed with arthritis a few months ago. She was limping quite badly after any exercise, stiff on getting up. Periodically I had to use anti inflammatory which helped temporarily, but she did not seem to improve. I had her on Rose Hip Vital for several months prior to diagnosis, and she has always had Omega oil daily since a puppy. The specialist advised firstly to get some weight off her, she was around 3kg too much, and up the fish oils. I have kept up the Rose Hip Vital, not sure if it does anything, but cant harm. Have added fresh fish to her diet on a more regular basis, all her treats are now fish based (I make my own). The weight is slowly coming off, I have added Collagen Hydrolysate (beef gelatin), which I take myself for arthritis, She has always been on the lazy side when it comes to exercise, but she was like a dog possessed when we went fishing, so now she swims daily with me flicking a fishing lure (minus hooks) for her to chase! She loves it! She has not limped not for over two months and seems to be much happier in herself. Just my experience.
