Would You Take A Dog To The Groomer In 41 Degree Heat?

Fergus is due for his haircut today in the middle of the day. I'm concerned because of the heat. He'll have water wtc, but I'm worried about the hot car trip, then being under blow dryers etc in this heat.

He is young, fit and non-bracchy. He doesn't like the heat though. Am I being too paranoid?

Does your car not have air-conditioning? We are going to the dog pool at midday but it will be AC all the way in the car, then straight into the water. I definitely won't be blow drying her after. I don't think I would ever blow dry a dog in this heat. They would dry naturally very quickly in today's weather!

My guys Sarah and Andy had their summer clips (read crew cuts!) on Tuesday and it was very hot. But the facility was air-conditioned and I asked them not to blow dry but let them dry 'au naturelle'. They were fine - and I'm really pleased I got it in just before this four days of over 40 degrees as they have been so much more comfortable.

He ist hanks for the replies. Both have air con but it is very hot already and the car aircon isn't good.

He is a poodle cross - all poodle types are blow dried before they're cut otherwise they would need to be air dried and would look like they have bad perms.

My boy iis clipped every 6 weeks. This appointment was made months in advance because the groomer is very popular (she is a breed specialist and does many show dogs). He's fine now but we wouldn't get another appointment for over a month. He'd be too wooly and hot by then.

The dogs are dried using a dryer to get the coats straight for clipping and finishing. Don't dry it and the dog looks like it's been dragged through a hedge backwards and no self respecting groomer would allow a dog to walk out of the salon looking that way.

You don't need to turn the heat on.

Blow drying the dog won't be an issue ,they aren't hot like human dryers & dog dryers have the option of turning heat on .

Chances are if you cancel at such short notice don't expect the groomer to fit you in especially when other people would be desperate for that spot ,its summer hot days will always be an issue .

I was at work grooming today. We have aircon and the dogs were washed in lukewarm water and blow dried. We don't use heated dryers anyway. One client who was booked in today cancelled. Said it was too hot to get her dog groomed; she was going to the beach instead

I've had two exciting weather days with Frosty at the Groomer

one - was that hail storm a few months ago - the storm came over while she was being dried and we opted to stay in the shop until the storm cells were gone - really glad about that.

and more recently - was glad there was no waiting at back door - it was hot - but not 44'c hot.

BlinkBlink's place has AC and it's nice. I stay with evil hound while she's being done tho. Well mostly I stay out of sight of evil hound... if that gets the job done faster and easier.

Yes as long as the facility is air conditioned and you can be certain they don't use heated driers, or dog forbid, cage dry.

I've been going strong in the heat no problem at all. I groom one at a time so each dog is bathed then blow dried with a drier that has no heater. It's actually been a bit chilly in the bathing room despite four days over 40!

Every single client has turned up and not one single problem with the heat.

If you postpone, especially at this time of year, you'll probably have a fair wait and then it may turn out just as hot on your rescheduled day.

Personally I would not send my dog to a non air conditioned facility on extremely hot days, nor would I allow it to go out to a non airconditioned mobile trailer on a very hot day.

This!! ^^^

My drier is not heated. It generates heat by operating so is just warm enough for comfort and never hot.
