sheena
In the state's north police have tasered and attempted to shoot a mad dog which attacked a number of people. Around midday the local council's rangers called for back up from police after a number of people were bitten near the Casino hospital. Inspector Doug Conners from the Richmond Command said the dog was particularly nasty and rangers had trouble catching it. "It was a very, very aggressive dog, it was foaming at the mouth and it was just highly agitated, it appeared to be very aggressive," Inspector Conners said. Two police officers tried to assist rangers in catching the dog but were also attacked. One officer struck the animal with a taser but that had little effect. The dog continued and attacked the second officer who shot at the dog. "We're uncertain if the round struck the dog but certainly the dog ran and it didn't stop the dog, it took off and hasn't been sighted since," he said. Police are warning people to be on the look out for the grey Shar-Pei German cross. The animal was last seen on the corner of Colches Street and Canterbury Street, Casino. Loving my Oldies
"It was a very, very aggressive dog, it was foaming at the mouth and it was just highly agitated, it appeared to be very aggressive," Inspector Conners said. Poor thing. I hope they find him before too long and either put him out of his misery or are able to treat him. Terrifying for those he attacked. Mrs Rusty Bucket
Took me a while to figure out what state that was in. Our State's north has town called Coober Pedy - but not one called Casino. And mad dog - I always thought that meant Rabies. But it could mean injured and hungry - those dogs aren't often friendly either. A drugged steak might have worked better than trying to shoot it. Stressmagnet
As someone who grew up in a country that has rabies, it sure sounds like rabies. Eep. Poor poor dog.

Maybe the dog has contracted something from Flying Foxes Edited December 16, 2015 by sheena
Salukifan
"Mad" might simply be "highly aroused". That can make dogs froth at the mouth. I hope they catch it.
Kirislin
I wonder if some idiot has drugged it.

Two Best Dogs!
I really hope rabies or something similar hasn't made it here. Brain issues? I hope it gets found fast and the cause discovered :/
tdierikx
There is no Rabies in Australia... Flying Foxes can carry Lyssavirus (poor cousin to Rabies), but that is also pretty rare, and doesn't present in the same way. Odds are the dog was either drugged somehow, or highly aroused and scared. Hope they find it and deal with it humanely. T.
JulesP
Hendra apparently doesn't cause symptoms in dogs either.
