Pippin13
Hi all, Haven't been around for a while. Have a quick question about teeth cleaning. Pippin (british bulldog 1.5 years) gets regular teeth chews, has dental care in her water etc and have very nice teeth but long term I'm wondering if there is anywhere that does teeth cleaning in Adelaide without an anaesthetic? Being a bulldog I don't want to put her under unless its absolutely necessary and maybe with her dental routine she'll never need it but wanted to research in case there is something out there. ness
Adelaide Dog have had somebody over from interstate who does anaesthetic free dentals if thats the approach you want to take. I am not sure how regularly or whether it was a once off thing but you could try contacting them. They run a mostly Raw dog food shop on Payneham Road. Salukifan
Can I ask what the big attraction is for anaesthetic free dentals? I can't see how anyone could effectively clean a dog's teeth above the gum line with the dog conscious or at least with its mouth anaesthetised. I have it done on my mouth and I can tell you, it hurts like hell. What happens if an extraction is necessary? karly101
Without an anaesthetic it would be a mostly cosmetic procedure - they can't scale underneath the gums which is what is done under a veterinary scale and polish. Underneath the gums is where the problem lies!
