BlaznHotAussies
I'm obviously doing something wrong, I have never seen a bin available with dry food purchase might have to start actually reading the catalogues... I have a Blackhawk bin for mine which is great, if not a bit flimsy for my liking (wouldn't want to keep it outside because it would probably get cracked easily) but I was lucky to get it because it was the last bin available at the store!! :D My ideal set up would be a little bar fridge for the raw meat & bones so I can defrost it in there. Then an old chest freezer for kibble I use when I run out of meat
Kirislin
I've got big plastic barrels with lids. I dont feed dry food anymore but I use them for horse feed now or what ever I want to keep protected from insects or vermin. I even store horse rugs in one. mackiemad
I used a big garbage bin with a twist lock lid. But I also have the big cereal containers from the supermarket - as they're easier to use on a daily basis. I have a bar fridge which has the raw defrosting and any oils, sardines etc in it. Little Gifts
W got a large Dingo bin from City Farmers and it takes a big bag of Black Hawk plus any packs of unopened treats. It is a thin rectangular shape and in two years there has been no deterioration of the plastic/rubber seals, no ants, cockroaches OR dogs get in it. Plus the food seems to stay fresh as one of mine poo poos anything remotely stale.
corrie
I like rubber seals on my bins to keep the food fresh. I use similar to these. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/glenhaven/pet-products/plastic-drums-with-lids-20l-/1092979762 I randomly found this link but if I am not allowed to post sale items I will delete. I'm really happy with it.
MonElite
I feed very little dreid food and buy a large 20 kg bag that lasts me for ever I used to store it in buckets from bunnings, like those that you buy paint in. But I found a perfect thing at Costco, it very big and easly would fit 25 kg of food. and its air tight I found it on amazon, but costco definitelly has it http://www.amazon.com/Vittles-Vault-STACKable-40-Stackable/dp/B0002H3S5K
Stressmagnet
How do you store your pets dry food? I was using a pedal bin but apparently ants can get up inside it Edit: I'm thinking of asking my OH to make me something like this that I can just put the whole bag of dog/cat food in, our feed bags have a zip close so they'd be sealed from ants that way... I've been storing Ernie's food in a pedal bin but apparently HE can get inside it. As I order a large bag every 6 weeks, I'm starting to think about something like you've pictured. I've got a bad back so it needs to be high enough to eliminate constant stooping but his food is kept in the kitchen. Anywhere else (I.e. The laundry or garage) is just a pain as he's fed on our deck (second story). I wish there was an attractive counter space option as Frat Boy has yet to counter surf and he's not bright enough to get up on the counter AND work out how to open a container. I was thinking along the lines of those cereal serving things you see at buffet breakfasts.

westiemum
Stressie I've been looking at cereal bins too - I think they are called 'ingredient bins' - but the ones I've found are commercial and mega expensive. There's one at Howards Storage which is OK but it's probably too big for my 12 kg bag. So if anyone has found a source of these bins which are smaller and affordable I'd love to know. Trishm
I read an article some time ago, and can't find it now, that suggested that the container should be BPA free. Apparently it does cause a problem with the dry food if it is put straight into a container containing BPA. Will keep looking for the article.
