Neat4fun
Hi I am hoping for some advice on the suitability of the purchase of dog clippers I have a labradoodle with a poodle coat and I am thinking of grooming him myself. There are so many clippers I don't know wat will work well on my dogs tight curls.
Salukifan
With clippers you get what you pay for. Go Wahl, Andis, Oster. I groom my poodles with the Andis Pro 2 speed. Don't forget also that you groom STRAIGHT coat. This means you have to wash and blow it straight - which means you need a decent dog dryer too. Dogsfevr
Yep you get what you pay for & don't forget to factor in the additional blades, scissors & nail clippers. My suggestion is before you think you may want to groom do your homework, whilst it is easy to sell the gear many people think its easier than it looks & whilst many want to save money it doesn't awlays end yup that way. So without knowing your dog i would ask this . How easy is your dog to brush ?? Does dog stand still & let you brush through & lift the legs etc etc. Do you brush on a table ? Rascalmyshadow
I would personally go with a set of Andis 2 speed, they are the easiest to handle and work well. As others have stated if your not going to invest in a good dog dryer you are wasting your money on clippers, unless your plan is to have a dog that is completely shaved, curly coats need to be blow dried completely straight, and bone dry to be able to clip properly. Many thanks is a dog dryer different from a blow dryer ? And will keep my dog quite short as we live on an average lots of grass and seeds. Like a blow dryer on steroids - usually on a stand for hands free grooming.
Rascalmyshadow
Not sure what you mean by blow dryer, the human kind? Dog dryers are like a reverse vaccuum, they use force to blow water out of the coat from the roots to the tips different to the way a human dryer works. A force dryer is the best option. karly101
I got a set of Wahl 2 speed for home and pretty happy with them. I don't groom pretty I just shave all the coat off (my sisters dog who is a pain to groom). What I do recommend is a smaller/quieter set of clippers (either battery or rechargeable) - I use them more frequently to do quick tidy ups and he tolerates them a lot better and they make doing areas like legs/ears/face a lot easier. Also recommend buying a couple sets of blades so you can send them off for sharpening :)
Rascalmyshadow
The Andis are smaller and quieter than the Wahl, much easier to handle. They are also better quality.
denali
The Andis are smaller and quieter than the Wahl, much easier to handle. They are also better quality. I had two pairs of Wahl km2's that both broke in different ways in the space of a couple of weeks of each other. Both were only a year and a bit old Bought some Andis, and RMS is right, they are smaller, lighter and quieter. But equally as powerful :) I do love my wahl bravura though.
