mumtoshelley
Hi everyone what Shampoo and conditioner would be best for a really stinky 18 week old golden retrie2ver puppy. I have used fidos aloe vera puppy shampoo, the our dog shampoo, even tryed Eucalyptus wool wash and sprayed with a lavendar doggy deodrant and by the next 2 days he stinks again. In saying that he has got a second yeast ear infection which is being treated and his teething too. His diet will be switched to raw when I get paid. RuralPug
If he is stinky again two days after a bath, then either he is lying in/rolling in something stinky or the smell is not in his coat, but is coming from mouth/ears/skin folds or anal glands. I'm sure that you are washing his bedding in Biozet or something similar. Check the garden for spots (compost heap maybe) where he might be rolling in something gross and decomposing. If sorting his bedding and the garden doesn't help, then you should consider a vet check to elimate the other problems. Oh, one more thing it could be - some dogs stink when they are wet. If he is one of those and he is getting wet and not getting dry quicky and properly afterwards then sometimes you will get a rather horrible smell. It means that you need to keep towels by the door for vigourous rubbing and when grooming him, use a hairdryer on low to dry his skin. Ivory & Beau
Could he have hot spots? My Lab stunk when she had hot spots that we didn't realise she had, due to her thick coat. The smell cleared when we cleared up her hot spots.
Rascalmyshadow
If your pup has yeasty ears that will cause a lot of smell, amazing how many customers bring their dogs to be bathed because they smell dirty and the smell is not from the coat it's usually ears, mouth or feet. Get some Aloveen shampoo and conditioner from the vet try using that (water down the shampoo and only very lightly rinse the conditioner), I would also use PAW ear cleaner once a week along with what ever medicated drops your vet has given.
