Sick Dog

My dog Bru is sick and we don't know what is wrong

Husband has taken him to 24hr vet now as he was shaking .

He was doing this weird burp thing before we went away , and on and off since we came back

He's lost weight very quickly and is not eating much. We were managing to get tuna info him this past few days( as he was refusing dry) but today he didn't have little or nothing

He's a lab so he always eats normally .

I'm so upset and only dog people really get it.

I dunno why I'm writing this , praying it's not serious - angry with us we didn't bring him to vet a Last week, but we were all sick and didn't .

hopefully he's in hospital, and they can find out what the problem is , and get to work on it .

Thinking of you - I remember you mentioning the burping .

take care - it is always a scary time when they are so ill .

hoping for better news next post.

Hope he's ok, sounds like some sort of ulcer type gastritis thing maybe (technical term "thing") hope its easily fixed and he's back to normal soon. Keep us posted.

Husband just text he weighted him on way in- he's down almost 10kg- he was a bit over weight and is a big dog but I feel sick- that's huge .

They are keeping him in for tests overnight

Since we came back from hols( week) he's not eating his normal dry. He was eating tuna up until today. He's still burping and has threw up only once this past week.

Vet told dh he's worried about cancer- surely not so quick with no other symptoms ?!

Our other girl is so sad she keeps checking the door and coming over for a cuddle.

Vet will call me in morning .

It's awful to be worrying like this. I know how the mind runs wild and fears the worst and that you just need to tell people who understand. I hope he's going to be OK. Please let us know the outcome.

No news waiting on vet to get test result.

Chloe is anxious I think, back to her not going down the scary hallway routine .bru and Chloe have never been separated since the day we collect her from Canberra and brought her home.

Thinking of you all and especially Chloe. Dogs suffer too when another is sick and away.

Hoping that the vet will have definite diagnosis before too long. In my experience, dogs who have cancer don't show it until the cancer is advanced.

Partial intestinal blockage perhaps? Hope you get a diagnosis and effective treatment ASAP!

They sure know how to worry you!

Ain't that the truth :(.

If the vets are ambivalent about what could be the problem make sure they do xrays and, if necessary, ultrasounds.

Good luck.

Dh just spoke with vet it's not good .

Blood came back clear but they found mass in intestines and thinks it's cancer

Said the op to determine if it is , is invasive and if it's is where it is means not much can be done

Said meds are hard and prob won't do much.

We have to get him on high energy diet to keep weight on him.

I am going to get him soon and will ask questions

Devastated

I'm very sorry to hear this swazzie, I can understand how you must feel having lost a Lab girl earlier this year with a similar condition. In our situation the kindest thing was to have her put to sleep because she was in so much pain and discomfort and her decline was quite rapid. It may not be the same for Bru. Big hugs to you, Bru and your family. :grouphug:

I would be getting a second opinion on the surgery - just for peace of mind. Ask to see a specialist?

The mass may be a blockage, not cancer (if the bloodwork came back clear).

If he has a mass or blockage, then would feeding him up make it worse?

Wishing you and him all the best.
