Cat
Hi Hamish is crate trained. He is quite happy to go in a wire crate no problems. But I got him a soft crate and he won't go in it. I have tried putting food in there but he will only stick his head in, not go all the way in. I had tried putting his breakfast in there And he would only stick his head in it then the noise must have spooked him and be decided he didn't need the rest. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can make it less scary. Thanks
The Spotted Devil
Personally I prefer to shape an interaction with "the scary thing" rather than lure (which is what happens when you put food in the crate). So mark and treat for looking at the crate to begin with and then any interaction with it. It's a great skill for a dog and owner to learn. And use AWESOME treats of course! Cat
Thanks. Started off with that yesterday but wasn't feeling 100% so didn't have the patience.. Will give it another go today.
The Spotted Devil
Thanks. Started off with that yesterday but wasn't feeling 100% so didn't have the patience.. Will give it another go today. Smart move as you do need to be patient. Relax with a cuppa and just enjoy the process :) Dog training has become my "zen" moment. It's how I switch off to the world.
