Maybe get someone to proof read your email before you send it?
Dogsfevr
There is the problem. I don't have a contact number. All correspondence was via email So when you got the pup you didn't get a puppy folder with contact details, does the dog have papers if so there kennel name should make it easy to find there details. You can't accuse them of anything yet so your email should be easy to write .tell them what the vet has said & ask them for advice . Where the parents hip scored & tested for other things?? catbrit
No no I don't want to accuse them of anything at all. They were so nice and polite to us and we love our Alfie pup dearly. I have sent a general email asking how her and her doggies are and have asked if she has come across anything like this with her dogs or past dogs, also asked if she has what she did to help the dog. Kirislin
send them an email asking for their phone number so you can ring them. Also, have you tried looking their phone number up in the phone book, it might be there. Is there a chance he was dreaming when he stood up and piddled? catbrit
I can't be sure if he was dreaming. It happens a lot. However... I have sent of an email asking advise. I'm not sure of the process of purchasing a puppy with his dysplasia (if that is what he has, will see what is going on when they x-ray him) Surly it can't be anyones fault
The Spotted Devil
HD is frustrating to say the least. It can pop up even when parents had good hip scores, it's affected by exercise and nutrition and effects of desexing are not clear either.
catbrit
Alfie has only had minimal exercise and we sorted his diet when he was much younger to suit his likes, tummy upsets and overall demeanour (the diet change made such a wonderful difference) We haven't let him jump around, go up and down stairs or anything like that. I think it is just one of those things. I remember having a Labrador as a teenager and he had such a bad time with hip Dysplasia, the breeder approached my dad and said she couldn't do anything with him. So dad said we would take him. He was kept comfortable and everything was done to keep him happy and healthy. He passed when he was 13. He was a wonderfully spoilt dog.
catbrit
UPDATE: The Vet called me today with "good" and bad news The 'good' news is that my little man has a UTI which is treatable with meds so all the wetting should sort itself out The bad news is that he has, to quote the vet "Very notable hip dysplasia" :-( my poor boy. I'm so sorry about the HD. There will be some good advice here from people with experience. You may want to say (either here or by message) your approximate area in regards to finding the tried and true specialists. ooops sorry, I see Redlands QLD on your profile. catbrit
The X-rays don't look good for a 6 month old. Im going to try management at the moment I'm just trying to work out the right supplement in the right doses for the little guy. He has been in a lot of pain since his boswelia complex tablets ran out so i need to put a plan in place soon!

I take him to the Thornlands Veterinary Hospital in Thornlands, Redlands She is a new vet on there Amanda? Very thorough compared to other vets I have seen with previous pets. after taking the x-rays she gave me an array of options on how to help him and she shared a lot of literature with me. He has also seen Jenny Day the Mobility Vet where he got acupuncture and and manipulation. I have also (today) sort a second opinion from another chiro in the area who has had many years of experience in the field (he is actually retire but still occasionally seeing animals because he enjoys helping) He was very helpful

helen
That is a bit odd the only breeder communication was through email. Have the X-rays been scored by someone qualified to get a real picture

Have the X-rays been scored by someone qualified to get a real picture Both good questions Helen! I have since found her contact number. Yes all discussions where via email, it was the easiest way to keep contact i guess? X-rays haven't been scored as such. I thought i would treat accordingly and get him re-xrayed at 12 months then send them off. I don't really know what the breeder will do with the information - is there anything she can do? Im not sure what the protocol (if thats the right word to use) is when buying a dog if they are found to have hip dysplasia. If anyone could shed some light? Jemmy
Does anyone else have information on hip dysplasia at 6 months? I have a different breed but was told to be very wary of HD diagnosis so young and if it was a concern to have xrays done by or sent to a specialist in the area. catbrit
What is the go when you buy a puppy thinking it is ok and then find it has HD? Im getting very distressed at all the "advise" or "direction" given to me by either a person treating him or when I talk to someone.
