Cruciate Laxity

Hi all,

I am looking for any info or stories you may have about Cranial Cruciate ligament disease. My nearly 6 year old GSD has moderate HD in her right hip and now this in her left knee. She was xrayed yesterday and the vet had a really good look at her and this is the diagnosis he gave. As I live in the boonies, I will have to go to Melbourne for her surgery.

What I am really keen to hear though is I believe there is some surgery that can be done before the ligament actually ruptures??? I am going to spend the weekend researching as best I can and then email the specialist. But would love to hear others experiences please?

Thank you in advance for any help.

If the ligament hasn't actually torn yet, the surgeon will sometimes not open the joint when doing a TTA or TPLO, which makes for a quicker recovery and leads to a much faster return to full function, as well as less chance of arthritis down the track.
