persephone
Doofus Don , dear Don , dashing Don , ....damn Don ..... I had him loose for a run just now ...checked, couldn't see anything to chase .. came back inside , only to hear some of the other dogs in a state of excitement. I saw, around 300 mtrs away , a black streak running around the sheep - until one stubborn old ewe broke away .. I saw him start to run after her , jumped in the 4WD , and prepared to rescue her - just as she came racing past me,with Don guiding her path . She then stopped , nostrils flaring and probably thinking "WTF" !.... standing with her bum against the garden fence - at which point the black beast came over to me - happy as larry!! The ewe stood there for a minute, getting her bearings - then trotted , stifflegged and bug-eyed, back out into the paddock . I will have to get myself into some sort of training mode ....just can't find it
Tassie
Phew .. that would have been a worry for a while, Perse .... but good Don in the end. And yes .. you'll have to find your training mojo.
Roova
Or a really really long line! It would be extra tough with so many temptations for him too I imagine.
persephone
it's Ok - he is from working dog parents ... and he has no intention of killing/eating - even The Boss said he was smart for bringing a sheep home - it's not an easy thing to do at all - to steer/guide a sheep away from their mob , over an open paddock , in past other dogs and vehicles ... yesterday I watched Don ... we were out walking - and one silly rabbit decided to run from the bushes .toward our yard - they go in & out freely ..at present. Anyhow - rabbit took off - so did Don, but at an angle , which I thought was weird - UNTIL - Don went to where the gate was open - dashed thru that, and was waiting for the rabbit as it came thru a hole in the fence!! No, he had no hope of catching it - BUT , showed me that he can think/anticipate pretty well :) Wish I could stay focussed and do some training with him .....
