I received an email from them this morning asking for suggestions so I am asking here (where else!) Here is their question: Need advice for friends who have an arthritic collie/whippet cross called Haggis.He has some muscle wastage, legs splaying a bit, and he is on ' metacam; treatment. He can walk for shortish distances, but has difficulty manoeuvring at times. He seems content enough, and not in obvious distress.Do you have any advice for home based physio etc? Her Majesty Dogmad Posted May 21, 2015 Share Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) If they have tiles or floorboards in the house, they need to put down some rubber backed matting as I've found this really helps dogs in this condition, helps them stay more stable on their feet. Also, have they been to a vet? Some dogs need to be on painkillers (liver function needs to be tested but there are alternatives if it isn't good) permanently. I have arthritis - it's pretty painful and I have to take painkillers but I also take supplements and that has managed it very well for many years. Dogs can also take supplements, available online or from the vet - green lipped mussels etc, needs to be an all round program to do as much as you can to help your pet at this stage.
