hovawart
Hi, would like to know if anyone has experience with registering a new breed in Australia, that is already registered by Kennel Clubs in UK, Canada, US and many others countries? Thanks! Ps. I want to register the beautiful Hovawart!
espinay2
Have you imported a dog from overseas which is registered in that country? If so, there is a process of applying to have the breed and the dog recognised which is in the rules and regulations of the state kennel controls. Have at look at the regulations on the DogsVIC website (noting you are in Victoria) and have a talk with them about what needs to be done. Note you generally have to get the dog here first in order to start the process.
Lhok
The hovie is on the foundation stock program in the US so it isn't considered to be offically recognised yet. Although it has been designated to the working group. Not sure what the rules are in regards to getting a AKC dog and registering it here would be. To get a breed recognised you need to have access to the breed standard which would be from the country of origin (being Germany) you also need to do a breed extension as part of the process to help judges. But of course that is after you get the dog in the country to begin. --Lhok
SkySoaringMagpie
As you're in Victoria I would find Deb Huon at a show and talk to her. She bought Azawakhs out and went through the recognition process.

For the Hovawart, that country, as Lhok says, is Germany. The person who heads the ANKC National Breed Standards Coordination Group is Mrs Marie Merchant. I would suggest you contact her via FB, Dogs SA or the ANKC and get what is required for recognition direct from the the chair of the body who will recommend or not recommend any application for recognition by the ANKC. The type of pedigree provided by the country of export matters. You also need an approved English translation of the breed standard. Get what is required up front or it could cost you a lot of money and heartbreak with no recognition of your imported dog as one possible result.
