Audiocorgan Posted May 12, 2015 Share Posted May 12, 2015 Hi fellow dog lovers, I have a lot of friends with dogs and come christmas/birthday time I ususally try to get them something for their four legged friend. The local pet store doesn't really cover the higher end of the dog collar market so I was wondering where you guys go to, or can recommend, a place to get designer dog collars online? Preferably after some feedback from people who have actually purchased online and have good/bad feedback. Must run, cracking day for a run in the park! I have bought their 'rescue packs' of martingale collars and their kennel leads to use for puppy packs. Before I buy one (at some distant point in the future) can you or anyone explain: What is a D ring collar and why would I use it? And is a Marringale similar to a choke collar? Pretty much all collars have a D ring, nothing special. A martingale collar is different to a slip or choke collar/chain in that it only closes a certain amount. When adjusting, you want the two D (or O) rings that attach the slipping loop to almost be touching when the collar is pulled tight, so that the dog can't back out of the collar but also so that if the dog pulls very hard, it won't actually be choked. The downside is that martingales aren't the safest of collars to leave on a dog and a leather one is even more risk because in an emergency, it'd be very difficult to cut off (compared to fabric or spun poly webbing, anyway). I wouldn't know much about care of these sorts of collars, I'm really not a fan of leather. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
juice Posted May 13, 2015 Share Posted May 13, 2015 what maddy says on D rings etc. I have a martingale i had made for my bully as normal collars slip over her head when she goes for walks and just stops . :laugh: I don't leave it on her, so bought a flat collar too ( that way i got to choose another design), which just has the buckle and no D ring as its just for at home. I buy those leather wipes from Woolies and just wipe them down every few days in summer. I have had them at least 3 years and they still look new, will post a pic later. I have the Namaste2D in black,the Savannah in brown martingale ,the Ranger in the dark red leather, and i had the day time one for Bonne custom made using heart conchos on light brown leather and gold studs.
