Lvbentley
I have recently decided that I would like to spend 6 months to a year travelling next year. I have a 6yo mini schnauzer and a 5yo website, both desexed males. They have been the centre of my world for the last 5 odd years, I move a lot with work so always being able find somewhere to live where I can have them has been difficult and expensive but I would not give them up for the world. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do if I travel? I have put this off before because of "the kids" but feel it something I really need to do and this is probably my last chance. They are beautiful boys and as long as they are together they are ok without me, they have stayed with friends for 3 months before. They are well socialised dogs and ideally I would love to find someone who could mind them for me and I could pay for and supply food, clips, vet care etc. If I go it will not be until December but I guess I need to sort this out before I commit to the holiday, are there any websites where I can find people who mind dogs longer term? mita
Have you considered the groups that link people with experience with caring for pets in owners' own homes with those needing that service? We have relatives who go to New Zealand for periods of time & they get suitable people from this source to look after their band of pets. The minders have references & checks. Our rellies (wife used to be a vet nurse) have always been happy with the service. I think the minders have the benefit of living rent free ... or almost. Maybe others on DOL have actually used this kind of service, too, & would know more about it.
Katdogs
Will you be keeping your own place that the dogs can stay at with someone? Or will they have to stay at another location until you come home? I'm happy with the person I found on happyhousesitters but that relies on you having a house to sit.
