Best Dlsr For A Beginner

Hello photography people!

My sister has asked me to ask the DOL brains trust for advice on what to look for in a fairly basic/introductory DSLR. She mainly wants it so she can learn the basics (although she has done a bit of photography in the past) and take family photos as her baby daughter grows up.

She's hoping to spend no more than around $500 or so.

So any tips on what she should get and also where the best places to buy from are? What about lenses? Should she buy separately or go for one that comes with the camera?

Tks :)

Any of the Canon or Nikon entry level cameras should do... kit lenses are fine for most purposes, but I'd try for a single more all purpose range lens, like 18-200mm or thereabouts.

Canon 1200D - http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/category1457_1.htm

Nikon D3200 - http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/category1215_1.htm

I have a Cannon entry level as I'm just starting out. Around $500 from Domayne & I love it. Only used it on auto focus so far. Takes great pics. Also brought a 5 disc photographers course for beginners. Am about to start that. I'm a slow learner & suffer from dyslexia so thought I could do the course at home at my own pace :)

I started with a canon 1100d, still have it, still use it and love it!

Takes excellent photos, even just on auto, and a good one to learn manual on.

ETA: The photo of kokoda in my sig was taken with it :)

I'd personally start with the Nikon option. (Non bias, personally shoot Fujifilm gear)

They seem to have better sensor tech and image quality for the money vs Canon. So i feel lends to easier system growth.

Ie can keep using a D3200 while spending money on better glass to get sharper picture yet the body still having better sensor image quality vs a more expensive higher Canon model.

There are mirrorless on dlsr options but not really this cheap for what you'll get.
