They are not all put out in the yards like that... the staff really do a great job looking after every dog in their care... I know dogs who didn't want to go home!

T.

I meant in the building/shed ... where the beds are , sorry .

Hi there is a lady at our agility club who minds a few dogs in her home. I dont have her details but can find out From the club. Luckily i dont leave my dogs much but i considered her. My brother gets roped in to dogsit mine with some bribery. Even if he totally spoils them and the kelpie controls him!

At wollongong. If interested i can get her details?

Just a thought my dig walker comes in 2 tines a day. Walks, medicates & feeds Scott when im away. works out less than a kennel. Do you have a local walker who might be able to do similar? Or maybe one of the vet nurses from you vet might sit him?

I had two of mine at Renbury Farm for four nights a couple of years ago. I was happy with it and my guys came home happy and healthy, it was the first time they'd ever boarded/been away from me too. They are working breeds, fairly robust, no particular issues and in a kennel together though.

The facilities were clean and the staff were nice, it was loud in the accommodation shed though, and yes just mesh between kennels so I think it could be stressful for a sensitive dog.

Have a look at findadogminder.com.au Aimz08.

Someone on here suggested it when I was looking for somewhere to take my two little dogs for a few weeks in January and I found a wonderful lady who looked after them in her home (in Qld but they should have people in your region).

There is Don't Fret Pet as well, which has people who mind in their homes.

I think that for a weekend, I would try Don't Fret Pet - they have minders all over the place and you can give your criteria for your dog and they'll match you up.

I wouldn't recommend Meadowmist or many other places to be honest. It's getting cold at night and it would be nicer for him to be in a normal home.

My colleague at work with a French Bulldog took him to the same place recommended on here earlier, the pet resort on the central coast (not to be confused with the other places with similar names in greater Sydney). It is fantastic and I recommend it to anyone happy to drive a bit further.

Marie sounded fantastic, thanks melzawelza. Unfortunately she is too busy to take on new clients (obviously very good)x will keep searching :)

Bugger! I guess there's a limit to how many dogs you can fit in your home

As far as boarding kennels go the only one I'd recommend would be Pet Resorts Dural. Glenn that is the Ops manager had a beautiful Frenchie boy until he passed away recently. He has a big soft spot for them. They're a bit of a hike from the shire but they do do pick ups from vets around sydney so there might be one closer that you can drop him to/pick him up from.

We have used Allendell in Darkes Forest. It is run by a no-nonsense woman that has been doing it for a long time. The police dogs go there when their kennels are full. It's pretty standard, and they don't get much one-on-one care, and it is just wire between the kennels, but if we get stuck, that's where ours will go in future as well. They were clean and she has a good reputation and runs a tight ship. Kennels in general are not exactly ideal, but options are limited sometimes. Ask on the Everything Sutherland Shire Facebook group if you're on FB. It comes up pretty regularly.

Yep Deb is the best, it's not like a kennel at all and she really knows her stuff with special needs dogs. I was always sad that she didn't take big dogs but it's great for people with littlies that don't want big dogs around them.

I must be in the minority here but I have boarded Tonka at Hanrob many times including late last year for numerous weeks and he always comes back happy and healthy.

A DOLer put me onto Happy Housesitters and I have used them since getting the cat and had some great people come and stay with the pets in my home...also very successful. I have had one repeat older lady come and look after them three times. You get retirees, young couples, singles.

I will look into these options for when we go away for longer. Thanks so much!!

I have used Meadowmist for over 10 years with out last little guy who was a maltese x - he was totally spoiled at home and I wanted to make sure he was well looked after when we went away. One time we were away for nearly 4 weeks. I never had any problems. Our boy stayed in their special care which is heated at night in winter and cooled at night in summer. They only have 4 special care rooms. Each dog had its own carer for the dU ration of their stay. I always provided my own (cooked) food for my boy which they were happy to feed him and they supplemented with their own as well if I wanted to. He had play time (which did cost avout $5 per day extra). Play time is in lovely fenced grassed paddocks (smaller for,the littles) and they are not socialised or mixed with other dogs without your consent. I have no hesitation in recommending Meadowmist based on my own personal experience with them.

In more recent years though we have been using Don't Fret Pet - take a look at their website - lots of into there. You set your criteria of what you want in a carer (eg, I wanted a carer with no children and a doggy door available) and you can set how fR you are prepared to travel for a carer. Once they match you up with someone you visit them with your pet and inspect their home, garden and security to make sure you are satisfied and if you are happy you let the, know and confirm the booking. We have used the same lady at North Parramatta the last 2 times we have gone away for our current boy Nd will be using her again in Decembef this year. I liked that he got too stay in a home, inside, and even slept on her bed with her if he wished.

Hope some of that info helps. I'm sure there are plenty of really suitable places for your fella to bed down for a couple of nights!!
