persephone
I have never had an entire dog inside .... well, never really had an entire pet/house dog. I think Don pees all over himself ..he reeks!! It's like a fox scent ..very strong !! Apart from washing him all the time ..any suggestions? ( yes, he will be castrated in the not too distant future ;) )
Scottsmum
Oh. No advice. Just yuck :) Scottie manages to pee on his front legs and jackets but hes very particular about cleaning himself up & i dont think he smells.
LisaCC
I have an entire dog inside here and there is no smell. In saying that I don't think Nova pees on himself. I'm actually thinking perhaps there is something else going on? UTI perhaps?
Pretty Miss Emma
I'm the same as LisaCC. Is there something else going on? I have an entire male who spends heaps and heaps of time inside and he doesn't smell at all.
Rebanne
My entire dog doesn't smell either. UTI?
Steph M
Gus squats while we walks and pees, so occasionally he's a bit piddly but I have to admit I don't smell it either, he's not entire but inside all the time. Probably a bit different to entire but I'd have a strong wee smell checked. Perhaps some apple cider vinegar in his drinking water too?
Dame Aussie
I have an entire dog inside here and there is no smell. In saying that I don't think Nova pees on himself. I'm actually thinking perhaps there is something else going on? UTI perhaps? Same here. Two dogs inside, one entire, neither smell.
Bjelkier
My Havanese pees on the fur on his belly and after a week he starts to stink, we always know when he's hit his bath day. The Samoyeds however, never smell.
OSoSwift
I have three entire males and they never smell, one occasionally pees on the back of a front foot but even that wears of quickly
SchnauzerMax
It couldn't be anal glands could it?
persephone
Thanks - Def. not anal glands ..doesn't seem to be a UTI - he holds on fine overnight, and other times , no probs. maybe he does need more cleaning off ...... our working dogs smell - maybe it's just that he's inside , and I notice it ;)
VizslaMomma
Herbert has the occasional episodes of 'pong'..... Usually when he has tinkled on himself & is so eager to get back inside.
DobieMum
Entire dog urine smells, but generally only when they've had to hold on and actually toileting for the sake of toileting rather than marking. But usually not the dog itself.
persephone
Dobiemum - That sounds feasible - (he does pee on himself , I know that )

Her Majesty Dogmad
Italian Greyhound males frequently pee on their front legs, it gets very smelly so I used to wipe my boy's legs down all the time with an unscented wet wipe.

Kirislin
When I had a young entire IG staying here, I noticed the difference, he ponged, but he wees on his chest, front legs and sometimes even his face! Never deliberately, it just happens. Most people with deep chested dogs who do this keep wet wipes handy and use them alot.
Kirislin
*wonders if paper towel/vinegar would work?* Maybe you could keep a spray bottle with a solution of water and vinegar in it and then just spray that on a towel to wipe him off with. JRG
trim the hair off from his belly (if he has any) and where the pee hits. IMO it is the hair that retains the smell
