huski Posted March 18, 2015 Share Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) Guys, I need positive vibes right now. Our poor old husky Micha has been at the vet for the past two days. He went down hill really quickly on Sunday and was vomiting non stop and couldn't stand, eat or drink. The vets initially suspected severe pancreatitis but test results are showing a problem with his colon, however they still aren't sure on the cause. He recently went on some new anti-inflammatories for his arthritis and the vets think the medication could have caused some damage to his organs, but they aren't sure. The vet just called my mum and told her Mish has gotten worse and has gone downhill badly. She is now transferring him to a specialist hospital. He is badly in pain and cries when he is moved. Please cross your fingers and and paws for Micha, he is 12.5 years old but we thought we would have more time with him. My mum doesn't want to make the decision to have him PTS until we can identify what is wrong with him and see if it is treatable. I haven't been able to stop crying and my heart is breaking for him and my mum, especially as we only recently lost Cherry too. tdierikx Posted March 18, 2015 Share Posted March 18, 2015 I was in hospital for 7 days on a drip with colitis... they never found the cause, but I can tell you it's not a fun ride! 2 of those days, I was on some pretty heavy morphine doses to stop me writhing about. huski Posted March 18, 2015 Author Share Posted March 18, 2015 The head vet at mum's local vet surgery just called and told her the only two options are to move him to the specialist hospital to see if they can pinpoint exactly what is causing this, or to have him PTS Making the decision to PTS is hard when we don't know what exactly is wrong and whether it is treatable. tdierikx Posted March 18, 2015 Share Posted March 18, 2015 I had IV antibiotics (Flagyll) and morphine pumped into me before my colitis cleared up. A CAT scan may show some things, but a stool sample is what they really need... and I can tell you is almost impossible to give them when you've been on IV fluids and nil by mouth for 3 days! The new medication he was on made him feel heaps better, mum said he was running around like a puppy. He was a bit off his food on Sunday night then all of a sudden at around 3am went downhill. Poor boy has also had some pain issues hence the new drug. If it is the new drug what will his life be like without it? Poor Micha. I wish him the best outcome. If it is the new drug what will his life be like without it? Poor Micha. I wish him the best outcome. Yes he suffers from arthritis, and the vets suggested a new medication that would help him.
