samoyedman
http://www.smh.com.au/environment/animals/man-charged-after-puppies-bashed-to-death-in-kurri-kurri-20150312-142eyk.html A man has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty offences after allegedly killing nine puppies that had been advertised for sale online. The 25-year-old man was arrested at a home in Kurri Kurri, about 35 kilometres north-west of Newcastle, on Thursday night and is due to face court on Friday following the deaths of the Bull Terrier cross puppies, which were believed to have been aged between six and eight weeks old. Police will allege that the owner of the 11 tan and white puppies had placed an online advertisement offering the animals for sale on March 5. When the puppies had not sold nearly a week later, the owner offered the puppies free of charge to the 25-year-old, who allegedly collected them about 4.30pm on Wednesday. Police allege the 25-year-old drove to bushland near McLeod Road in Kurri Kurri and began to kill the puppies by hitting them on the head with a rock. He then allegedly threw their bodies into the bush. A man who was out walking his dogs told police he saw a man stopped by the side of McLeod Road, taking things out of his car, swinging them around, hitting them against something and throwing them into bushland. He yelled out to the man, who allegedly drove from the area with five puppies still alive. The RSPCA arrived at the bushland a short time later to find five of the puppies had died, while another died on the way to a vet in Cessnock. One puppy survived, and has since been nicknamed Lucky by vet staff. The RSPCA appealed for help to find the alleged offender on Thursday afternoon. Following that appeal, police arrested a man at a home in Heddon Street in Kurri Kurri about 8.20pm on Thursday. He was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with serious animal cruelty, aggravated animal cruelty and resisting arrest. He was refused police bail and is due to appear at Maitland Local Court on Friday. The man allegedly told police that four of the five remaining puppies were destroyed, and the fifth was "re-homed". MelissaS
So horrendous. What a soulless piece of shit What a pig. Criminal history. http://www.theherald.com.au/story/2942760/puppy-killer-pleads-guilty/?cs=303 Puppy killer pleads guilty By GABRIEL WINGATE-PEARSE March 13, 2015, 3 p.m. ● Man arrested over bashing death of puppies UPDATE 12:20pm: Nathan Thompson has agreed to an order stopping him from owning, acquiring, purchasing or possessing any animal for ten years. On the strength of that order he was granted by magistrate Caleb Franklin, who said that although he had a significant criminal record, there was no history of him failing to attend court when required. He will be sentenced on April 28. Nathan Thompson leaves East Maitland District Court. Picture by Cath Bowen EARLIER REPORT AFTER spending a night in custody, a 25-year-old man has admitted to acts of cruelty leading to the grisly deaths of all but two of a litter of 11 puppies in Kurri Kurri. Nathan Thompson pleaded guilty in East Maitland Local Court on Friday to serious animal cruelty, aggravated animal cruelty and resist arrest. Police prosecutor Sergeant Justin Watson said police opposed bail. The court has yet to rule if Thompson will be released on bail. Police would be seeking an order to remove another dog, which is pregnant and living at Thompson’s house. His solicitor said he was happy to surrender the dog, which belonged to his girlfriend. Thompson was arrested by police and the RSPCA on Thursday after a public plea for assistance. Police say another man placed an advertisement on a website for the sale of 11 bull terrier cross puppies last Thursday, March 5. Almost a week later they had not sold and the man offered the puppies, free of charge, to Thompson, who accepted. Police allege that about 4.30pm on Wednesday, the 25-year-old loaded the puppies in his car and took them to bushland on McLeods Road, Kurri Kurri. He allegedly began to kill them with a rock, hitting them in the head and throwing them into the bush. A witness, who was out walking his own two dogs, allegedly saw what was happening and confronted the 25-year-old, who drove from the area with five of the puppies still alive. The RSPCA were called and inspector Scott Meyers arrived to find five dead puppies lying in the scrub, and two hanging on to life. Mr Meyers took them to the Rutherford RSPCA veterinary clinic but one died on the way. The RSPCA launched an investigation and, with police, attended a home in Heddon Street, Kurri Kurri about 8.20pm on Thursday. The man allegedly told police four of the five remaining puppies were destroyed and the fifth was re-homed. Thompson’s solicitor told the court that he would comply with any orders made by police or the RSPCA with regard to the dog living in the house he shares with his girlfriend. ‘‘It is his partner’s dog,’’ the solicitor said. ‘‘He has been living with her for two years. ‘‘The dog is pregnant. He will agree to whatever will put the court and others at ease that the puppies to be born will be safe,’’ he said. Issues of substance abuse and mental health would be raised in relation to an appropriate sentence, he said. If he was granted bail, he would be prepared to report daily to police and live at his mother’s house in Aberdare, if required. His juvenile record was ‘‘not good’’, the court heard, with the most recent matters in 2007, and the most recent adult matters in 2011. Thompson would be seeking an intensive corrections order rather than full-time custody, the court heard. Link to comment

Carita
This really bothers me "Thompson would be seeking an intensive corrections order rather than full-time custody, the court heard " Such a crime deserves full time custody. That monster should not be allowed to mix with the public. Link to comment
samoyedman
When the media closed in on him outside the court he shouted at them "someone told me to do it!" implying he wasn't at fault or responsible. Link to comment
Kirislin
Just another side of back yard breeding. What happens when they dont sell those cute little puppies. Link to comment
Carita
This case has to be used to refresh the opposition to backyard breeding. "Police say the bull terrier-cross puppies were first advertised for sale online by their owner Tony Brown last Thursday, March 5. Almost a week later when they had not sold, Mr Brown asked Thompson to ‘‘get rid of them’’, but said he did not mean for him to kill them. The puppies were loaded into Thompson’s car about 4.30pm on Wednesday, and he took them to bushland on McLeods Road, Kurri Kurri." My link Link to comment
Salukifan
A crossbred litter, six weeks old advertised on Gumtree and given no questions asked free to the same man. ALL of them. Mr Brown is hardly a great example of a breeder either. Seriously WTF did he expect?? Link to comment

Carita
Would it help if we were able to be at the Maitland Court House April 28th to show the court that we don't want this scum in our society Link to comment
BC Crazy
I saw them both last night on the local news on TV. The breeder of the poor puppies must think we are all idiots if he wants us to swallow the story that he gave Thompson all the puppies that he couldn't sell & he was NOT going to do away with them. Come on!!! Thompson seems to think that it was all OK to brutally murder all the puppies as he was allegedly asked to. Thompson & his "charming" partner didn't do themselves any favours on camera. Words fail me really. She just stood outside there home aggressively hurling abuse & running at the camera men. Outside the court Thompson was pretty much the same. Lowlifes !!! They aired footage of 2 dogs belonging to them in their back yard. Both some sort of pig hunting breed apparently. The bitch was quite pregnant & emaciated. You could see all her rib cage. The male also was very lean. Poor dogs. What hope do they have????? Edited March 15, 2015 by BC Crazy Link to comment
Carita
Have a couple of addresses if you would like to write a letter concerning Mr Tony Brown, who is the owner of the mother of those puppies. he has another bitch due to give birth to another litter of Bull Arab pups. there is a wave of protest letters bombarding the local inspectors of various welfare leagues requesting the removal of ALL the female dogs in this mans “care” If the pups dont sell....... well we now know what happens to them. he is a puppy farmer. apparently he has small breeds as well. Chief Inspector of RSPCA NSW- [email protected] Chief Inspector of the Animal Welfare League NSW- [email protected] Animal Welfare Inspectorial Office- [email protected] they need to be stopped! The rally group is meeting at the park opposite the police station at 8.30, with a call going out to make placards and banners. Content that will depict the plight of the puppies, the expected term but nothing derogatory of defaming. There is another rally for 9.30, Thursday the 26th at Newcastle court.
