CrazyCresties
Is Poppy showing a 'Double Suspension Gallop' here? Just curious as I know it's a sighthound trait, but wondered how common it is in other breeds?
OSoSwift
My whippets do it of course but so does my BC. I would call that a double suspension gallop :)
Simply Grand
Oh Saxon does that when racing across the park to get back to me for a treat :) I didn't realise it was a sighthound trait, just thought it was him going as fast as he could on little legs lol. ETA just to clarify, Saxon isn't a sighthound, he's a poodle x malt. Edited January 14, 2015 by Simply Grand
Simply Grand
Oh and Poppy looks like she's having a ball :D
*kirty*
Funny you say that Oso because I reckon most, if not all, of the BC and BC crosses I've had did the double suspension gallop.
Simply Grand
Do you think it comes down to dogs that have a drive to run flat out? As in they all could physically do it but many don't try to run at full speed? Wouldn't surprise me at all that sighthounds and BCs regularly do though. Kirislin
as others has said, yes she is. I dont beleive it's particularly a sighthound trait although I think that was said early on by sighthound "experts". It might have been as simple as in the late 1800's some bloke took a series of photographs of running animals. I remember there was a horse and possibly a greyhound. Perhaps the myth came from there. I've seen lots of dogs of all shapes and sizes doing it, even Iggy Mums little Chi/MinPinX does it. Done some searching, this bloke might be responsible for the original belief that it was sighthounds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eadweard_Muybridge#mediaviewer/File:The_Horse_in_Motion.jpg http://www.sciencephoto.com/media/364571/view Edited January 14, 2015 by Kirislin
VizslaMomma
That's a seriously adorable puppy! With Vizslas, that tends to be called the Zoomies. Just up early because Horrible Herbert has them these warmer mornings.

Kirislin
Sid does it :) yes but one look at him and we can see he's part sighthound. Edited January 14, 2015 by Kirislin
Kirislin
this little whippet was a particularly airborne runner. She's only got one foot barely touching the ground in this whole sequence. ** correction, I looked more closely and it's not touching either. Marloo running sequence CR LM by kirislin, on Flickr Edited January 15, 2015 by Kirislin
CrazyCresties
That's a fantastic sequence Kirislin and demonstrates it beautifully :) Thanks everyone for your input :) as others has said, yes she is. I dont beleive it's particularly a sighthound trait although I think that was said early on by sighthound "experts". This is why I was curious, I still see it mentioned e.g. if there is a photo of a sighthound in this gait as 'an lovely example of the sighthound suspended gallop' Sid does it :) yes but one look at him and we can see he's part sighthound.

CrazyCresties
That is one special move there by Sid  **Disclaimer** I did not take those photos, they were taken at a lure coursing event by Diana Andersen of Animal Images This is another one by her of the Popster :) Edited January 15, 2015 by CrazyCresties
Kirislin
I can't find the pic I'm looking for, but this one is pretty spesh. (I have no idea what's going on). I had to look for a while, couldn't see very well, and neither could he from the looks of things. I think he was going "ouch! ouch! sand in eyes, cant see...... huga
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that nasty MS kicked sand in his eyes to slow him down. What a bully :p
Weasels
Funny you should post this CC, I was admiring Chessy do it going flat out after her ball this morning :) Love watching dogs at full sprint. LisaCC
Nova does it :). Only have a photo on the iPad of one half though. Interestingly enough with a greyhound not doing it Nova was flat out and Brock the grey was just having a leisurely trot!
