Lol S_A, I just typed it up in Excel and took a screenshot. I need it all laid out to make sense.

I think it's really important to go through the PDS with a fine tooth comb before signing up to make sure you're satisfied with what you're buying. I'm torn between BWM and PIA. I'd prefer BWM based on customer satisfaction and reviews but the policy coverage just isn't as good as PIA. What to doooo?

I had it typed in excel exactly like yours too but didn't think of doing a screen shot!! hitself.gifhaha

I read both PDS' but I couldn't see much difference between the two in terms of coverage... what did you pick up from it all?

Sorry by coverage I just meant that BWM only covers up to $12k as opposed to PIA $15k. This isn't a huge financial issue for me though, I could absorb the difference if it came to it.

As there is a 30 day waiting period for illnesses, do you keep the old cover for 30 days?

Since receiving my renewal letter from PetPlan where my premiums have gone up nearly double to $902 per annum for one dog and reading similar stories from others here on DOL, I decided to shop around for another pet insurance policy.

As most people here on DOL know there are two major players in pet insurance; Allianz (PetPlan) and Hollards (everyone else) - There were many reasons I originally went with PetPlan as they had the better coverage... covering chronic conditions for life up to the annual benefit EACH year, paying 100% bill and no sub limits per condition to name a few. Since researching some of the Hollards companies again I was pleasantly surprised to find that in 2014 they have all had a huge overhaul of their policies to now align with the type of cover offered by PetPlan. Chronic conditions are now covered for life to the annual limit EACH year, no sub limits on conditions (except Tick Paralysis - Prosure has limit on cruciate ligament) and pre-existing conditions can be reviewed after 18 months if no signs/symptoms have occurred in that time.

I thought I would share some of the quotes I received when comparing a few different insurers against my 2 year old Hungarian Vizsla:

Not sure if anyone would find this helpful but hoping it will and I thought it was good to see the different prices (based on my breed) compared, especially to PetPlan which is wanting $902 if I renew with virtually the same policy as what Hollards now offer... I am still not sure which one I will go with, I'm leaning toward BWM and PIA smile.gif

Beware Bow Wow Meow.....I insured my 4 dogs with them , they took one years premium, I made no claims and the second year they increased the premiums by 110% !!!!!!!!!! ( oh and I apologise for the 2 weird posts I made further along in this thread....have NO idea what I did LOL!!!! sorry everyone.)

When did your premiums increase? I did hear that happened to a lot of customers I think in 2013/2014? I thought the explanation was because their policies were changed recently? That is my worry with these insurance companies - I understand small premium increases however, Petplan increased mine by more approx $400 and that is just ridiculous!

Gosh even if they do go up I'll be ahead of the game not being with PetPlan. $600 a year is a huge saving!

Well that's true thumbsup1.gif As long as there are no huge claims cause we would need to pay out 20% but then again hopefully that is a rareity.

Unfortunately it's the nature of insurance policies to increase each year whether or not we make a claim.

I copped an increase of over 98% for my two dogs in 2012-13 and cost of their policies continues to attract a huge increase each year. I've had a claim for one of my dogs in that period of time but no claims for the other dog.

4darlingdogs - did you query the reason for the premium increase?

Hi yes I did at the time but really got no clear answer. When I said that I would have to cancel all 4 policies I got the feeling they couldn't care less. I did wonder at the time if I was talking to a call centre. None of my dogs were particularly old and I could see no reason for it....they did not send me any amendments to the policies which may have explained it. :mad

I just got off the phone to PetPlan and have now cancelled my insurance with them! I am a bit anxious about it but I think it was the right decision - they attempted to get my premium down by dropping the level of cover but it still wasn't better than other quotes I've received... now to make the big decision of which company to sign up with today....

I've kept my PP cover just for the next month until the 30 day waiting period with BWM is over. Probably overly cautious but it would be just my luck for one of them to get ill. Not technically out any money as my first month of BWM is free. :)

Just signed up with BWM! I entered the promo code for 1 month free and then had to go 'back' on some of the pages to change things but when everything was finalised it didn't mention the 1 month free on the confirmation... did anyone else's?
