OSoSwift Posted November 25, 2014 Share Posted November 25, 2014 I have had entire girls and boys and their brains do get a little foggy from time to time, but the rules were I was the only one that let them in/out so there were no accidents. I have a 2 metre high fenced dog yard with small mesh, so the bitch was in there when they boys were out running around and visa versa. I found leaving one inside far too hard as they would inevitably slip past someone. Crating side by side and in runs side by side (with very small mesh) also worked very well as removing them completely sent them all into a spin. Maddy Posted November 25, 2014 Share Posted November 25, 2014 I own a boy with a bit of a manky penis* (and my vet wasn't keen on surgery to correct when Shitty Whippet is so good at keeping it clean ) and I'll admit I'm not super keen on touching it- but that's more because it's sometimes manky and not just because it's a penis. On the other hand.. Shitty Whippet has a fairly prominent vulva and likes to make sure everyone else has to see it, especially during dinner, and that bothers me more than usually unseen manky penis. I sort of prefer boys because they tend to be affectionate without being needy but for the most part, I've just picked opposite gender to the next eldest dog. Kiff (boy) -> Sally (girl) -> Bosley (boy) -> Penny (girl). I've never noticed much difference in toilet training so many foster dogs but the worst I've ever had was a girl who wouldn't just wee inside, she'd soil inside. *The Idiot Dog, who is scared of his own penis and has been seen recoiling in horror from it. Actually, we were road tripping and Deniki cocked his leg on a bush and i actually pointed and said "OMG, Rhianna (My sister whom i was travelling with) look! He's peeing on the bush!" and a few passers by thought i was the weirdest person in the world :laugh:Lol. I always cheer Reggie when he does a 'big boy wee' He hardly marks at all, so it's a momentous occasion! Glad i am not alone! :laugh: This is why i love DOL- im not the crazy dog person here. BlaznHotAussies Posted November 25, 2014 Share Posted November 25, 2014 I have a boy dog...the biggest issue I find is that he gets some of his belly fur wet after a wee which grosses me out if I accidentally touch it. Plus it makes the hair all icky when it dries. Plus I'm not a fan of the cocking his leg on everything but I just find I have to keep an eye on him if we go somewhere and take him somewhere appropriate if he's busting. But OMG trying to have a conversation with someone while my dog is around and he's got his red lippy out on show!!!!! usually when he's cuddling me That said he is the sweetest, cuddliest most playful dog, great with pretty much everyone (does take a bit to go up to strangers but he's improved heaps with more socialisation) & is so affectionate. I give my boy's belly and front legs a good wipe over with baby wipes each night, just in case he has misfired. If your dog is cocking his leg in inappropriate places it's better if you leave him at home when you visit friends until you train him out of this behaviour. If you catch him cocking his leg inside give him a stern verbal correction. I doubt there's any way you can avoid the red lipstick if your male is that way inclined. By chance we ended up with a boy and of course he was an absolute angel to housetrain - only ever squatted in the house under duress if we missed his 'I need to go pee' signals. He barely lifted his leg at all, funnily enough. I think he found squatting more civilized. :laugh: Changed my mum's tune after that! I think perhaps it's an older generation thing?
